The lure of ehu

Just come off a Rally on an all singing and dancing commercial site.   They did a deal where the ehu was optional @£3 p/n.   28 vans 25 paid for ehu.  We didn’t refilled the gas bottle after we got back and it cost me £4.51, the bottle had been used for 4  nights on a clubsite so ehu and 3 nights non-ehu so 7 nights in total.

No moral to this story just numbers.

I have come round to agreeing that making EHU optional would be an easy and effective way to satisfy the demands of some. But I'm pretty sure it would be a very small minority who would go without, given what I've seen on C&CC sites where that option is available.

The camping Club as far as I know, only offer non EHU grass pitches not non EHU H/S pitches. They are I think, primarily aimed at tents rather than 3.5 tonne motor-homes.

Some CC are on grass as well and seem left over as not worth including in EHU for whatever reason. Did see a number of motorhomes on grass last yeat on C&CC sites with and without EHU

I’m not begrudging the £3 p/n I just chose not to pay it.

Like many of us given the choice. It is called being frugal and that is how many of us could afford outfits in the first place.

Yes I agree, so have I, but I don't think I would want to book in advance any type of grass pitch months before a trip having no idea if the ground would be solid or muddy come the day. To be safe we always book a HS if we can, just like you do I believe, and that means EHU too at the moment.

Hakinbush you were way out in your over estimate of what some of us have paid for our motorhomes. I'm happy to pay an inclusive fee for the running of the site in my pitch fees but I'd like a choice on the EHU bit. Those of us who don't use every van appliance known to man are subsidising those that do.

Similar except I do it out of preference rather than safety as I prefer that alongside the caravan.

Not sure about the  every van appliance known to man Brue. We use heating when needed, hob, oven, kettle and lights. I suspect you use the same wink OK I admit we do use a toaster!

With a built-in LPG tank, gas is ridiculously cheap but I still like the convenience of EHU. It keeps the hot water ticking over and the fridge plus occasional use of the microwave, electric kettle and, most important (and difficult without EHU) a desk fan for hot nights in southern Europe.  a/c is becoming increasingly standard on motorhomes and that wouldn't be possible with just gas.
