The lure of ehu

Just come off a Rally on an all singing and dancing commercial site.   They did a deal where the ehu was optional @£3 p/n.   28 vans 25 paid for ehu.  We didn’t refilled the gas bottle after we got back and it cost me £4.51, the bottle had been used for 4  nights on a clubsite so ehu and 3 nights non-ehu so 7 nights in total.

No moral to this story just numbers.

Seems like a lot of work/bother to me when I can just push a blue plug in, the working out of numbers and ways to save a few £'s seems at odds to enjoying a break in my caravan.

Agree its not all about money to some, but my reply was in relation to the OP which was about money and numbers.

Me too. The off grid purists will be pushing water purification kits next so that we are not tied to taps, water pipes and mains supply - another grid they will seek to free us from, so we can collect   water from a caravan roof - just take a big water butt to collect it in. Free at last !

I'll give it a pass on the digging latrines I think

I think the idea was about choice, which at present isn't there. We all know we can plug in. wink

You are on to something there.

Based on the colour and taste of some "through the tap" water supplies that we have encountered in the UK we already need purification kits! I don't see that the stuff coming out of the sky can be much worse.

Almost all of us have an Aquaroll or similar to take on the role of water butt, so all we need is a guttering and piping kit to fit in the awning channel.

It's not always about money. I certainly don't worry about the money we spend on travelling (especially long haul when we always up-grade from  economy).

Fitting a Gaslow system was, for us, desirable, as we usually spend winter in Spain and needed to be able to access a gas supply.

We also had a solar panel fitted so that we can stay off grid on motorhome Aires / Sostas / Stellplatz. And that has nothing to do with saving money either: it's all to do with location.

Being independent of EHU just gives more options.

agreed, that's exactly why we have it....independence.

however, if you always go to a club site and are happy with their 'current' wink prices, why bother, indeed...

There is a difference between a pitch that has no hook up.  And one where hookup is available but not used as was the case for us this weekend.  Any reduction in price in that case can only be for the electricity not used.  The infrastructure is still their and has to be paid for and maintained.   If there is no infrastructure in the first place than obviously the pitch fee could be much reduced.

Obviously the positioning of non ehu pitches on a clubsite is a different question.   But as a caravaneer I know in then I know in the camc pecking order I come below Motorhomes, which come below glamping pods, which come below Airstreams.   I know my place!

I look up to him, as he is a Caravanner...with an awning, But look down on him as he only has a Trailer Tent,  I am a Motorhomer who doesnt need a Serviced Pitch........I know my place.     An Awning pitch, so i have more room and can roll out my canopy without the tape measure coming out.

And as one who drives a converted mini bus I reckon I don’t even count.

On the other hand, I look up to no one and I certainly don’t look down on anyone.

Equality for all is my view.
