Hi everyone. A tweet from Kirsty at Morrisons confirms that they are on board with Safefill. Filling is now allowed at all their sites. Show the cylinder to the cashier and away you go. This is great news for those who use gas and want to save money.

Congratulations to Safefill for your dogged determination to bring this product to market against overwhelming odds! The first crack has appeared in the dam! Thanks to all those who wrote to Morrison’s to ask why they couldn’t fill and thanks to Morrison’s for approaching this with an open and enquiring mind to cut through the rumours lies and propaganda surrounding this exceptional product. It is a better world today for the LPG user.

Is the statement on retesting composite bottles [like Safefill] not to exceed 5 yearly, referred to In the quoted UKLPG User Information Sheet 26, as a consequence of any legal requirement?

There must be by now a lot of Safefill bottles actually exceeding 5 years old.

What are owners doing, and who is providing this service, if indeed it is a requirement?

Here we go again! Ocsid, dont worry, It is not a requirement. The regulations that are being quoted DO NOT APPLY TO LEISURE CYLINDERS! now, dont ask me why not -thats the way it is! the regs have been made and passed by the top professionals in this field. Perhaps they realised that Leisure cylinders couldn't be policed or something which is about right actually - the 10 year inspection and testing issued on Safefills website is purely ADVISORY - it has no context in law- its just Safefill going the extra mile but they didnt need to. Who will know if I or anyone else doesnt get their cylinder tested after 10 years?? no one. i say again., if I decide that a new cylinder is applicable after 10 years then so be it. For something that cost me £150 but has saved me £1500 then am I going to worry? NO! it works out at 30p a week.! -and to be honest, I'll be amazed if they dont last far longer that 10 years!

Here we go again!

Ouch Merve, hold on.

I thought it a wholly reasonably question, given the quoted UKLPG document and surely here we should be discussing things that might be relevant to us?

I think anyone should be forgiven for believing a publication such as it with the clarity within the statement, that it must be authoritative?

Anyway I take what you are saying so definitively to us, the UKLPG's User information sheet's statement on periodic retesting, for whatever reason has no basis in UK law for "leisure" users. A big surprise nevertheless.

Fysherman, the tweet is real! I gave a link to the twitter page so people could see it was real. This doubt that appears to be all pervasive probably has its roots in 50yrs or so of not being able (legally) to refill a rental cylinder! Add to that the lies and propaganda put out by the enemies of Safefill- and they are many and varied, and you arrive at a situation where one just has to have doubts about a major supermarket accepting Safefill cylinders on their forecourts. Guys, I understand this is groundbreaking, it’s massive in the history of our hobby and we have been lucky enough to see it happen. It’s real! If I still can’t persuade you then email customer services like I and many others did when I started a campaign to get Morrisons to accept Safefill! They are very good at getting back to you and they WILL confirm that Morrisons now accept Safefill Cylinders for filling- what more can I say?

Hi Merve, I have known you long enough to trust what you post. You are an honorable chap with no hidden agenda at all.

Personally, I simply do not put any faith in a "Tweet" from anyone, not even the president of the United Statesinnocent

Clearly the club should be sorting this out, it is in members interests after all.

For what it's worth, I have been filling up at a Morrisons for over 2 years without fuss but I 'aint saying where as it is (but its been mentioned on CT before) as it was the manager himself that authorised the fillings after presenting him with the Safefill leaflet. If it turns out he should not have authorised it then I am not going to cause him problems, if its now ok with Morrisons then happy days for everyone.

Lets remember there are a darn sight more filling places in the UK, France and Spain that WILL fill it without any problem whatsoever. Filled up in them all!

I researched this some years ago but the figures are (probably ) still valid. It takes 10 to 11 fill ups with a Safefill to recover all your costs. If you fill up once a year it will take probably 8 or 9 years to recover the cost. Why not 10 to 11 years? Because Calor keep putting up their prices and pro rata this makes Safefilll even cheaper even if LPG prices rise at the similar level as Calor. I fill up 2 to 3 times a year so its a no brainer for me.

Re-tested at 10 years? A recommendation only and remember its already been paid for so throw it away or better still, give it to someone who does not believe a cosseted leisure cylinder will be faulty after a mere 10 years. These things are built like tanks.

Good to see a “lively” discussion about “direct fill” cylinders.

Merve appears to be passionate about the items he has invested in to improve his set up and enhance his off-grid excursions. He has also provided us with information on other Off Grid matters that I have certainly found helpful. Reading this thread it does look like he has been used for target practice when all I believe he is trying to do is inform and help others!

I can appreciate that in an ideal world it would be great to have an impartial post but some can only talk on what they know/have and that by discussing on here hopefully others add to the discussion positively by mentioning other brands or adding links to any info that may be useful

Ocsid. I am mortified! Having not checked the thread for over 24hrs because of 6 grandkids running me into the ground - the comment 'Here we go again' was in no way directed at you. It was directed at those who had already covered the point earlier in the thread and I found myself going over it again - so if you thought I was getting at you, I wasnt and I was merely trying to  reassure you that the retesting of cylinders wasnt applicable to Leisure Cylinders so please accept my apologies if I mistakenly caused you any anxiety.

I see now though that the attack is no longer on whether Morrisons are on board with Safefill, I think Johnny has nailed that with his last post which it would appear anyone could have got hold of if they had wanted to-  and it will definitely be put to bed when I reproduce the Official Statement from the company,-  no, its now we are sitting on a timebomb!! and talking about 5 yrs when Safefill themselves have said 10 years and thats only advisory! what utter tosh if I may say without being abusive, is it really being suggested that these things are suddenly going to explode or could suddenly explode? again, we see the lack of knowledge regarding the material used for the cylinders and all the safety and explosive tests these things have been through. Its almost anything to frighten people- particularly newbies off buying a Safeill and it isnt right!!!  Any form of attack against Safefill has been used on this thread and now we have entered the world of make believe. I thank Fysherman for his kind comments regarding my character. I am not one that comes onto this forum with a bunch of half cocked and flawed tales. He and I hope others have got to know that over the years, I will always, if a genuine mistake has been made, retract the comment and apologise, Im not too big for that!  The information I give is , as far as I can research it, truthful and factual, as indeed has now been proved from that OP so so long ago! The information I give about Safefill will always be spot on. I hope that we can all get some sleep now and not worry that the front end of our vans are going to be missing in the morning having been taken out by a cylinder! I take it Fysh that when you said they were built like tanks you were referring the the military type? because yes they're built like.......Tanks!tongue-out
