How much do you pay for your gas ?

Just cost me £32 for 2.75 kg of butane. A camping gaz 907 is the only thing that fits in my van but to make matters worse I gave them back 0.75 kg because I needed a full bottle  for Silverstone .l don't use much gas and mostly rely on a solar panel but CampingGaz make Dick Turpin look like a benevolent gentleman. Anyone with a campervan got a better solution ?

I don't know why everybody doesn't use Safefill. I have refilled mine 3 times in under a year  so it's now paid for itself. £75 for a bottle seems like a lot. But 3 refills for £6 somthing. Loads cheaper. But I cook & use the heating. And in hot weather the fridge is far more efficient on gas. Just spent a week in a field without hookup. So hot water as well. Half a cylinder gone. About £3.50. And people said it would never pay for itself.

And your 'field' costs so much less too don't forget! I have found some fabulous 'fields' since going non EHU - I would never go back to the dependency on EHU. Safefill have struggled to establish themselves in a market place ruled by a cartel but with persistence and the support of the public they are beginning to make headway! Yes, I would be on Safefill even if the cost savings were less just to deny Calor and Flo their ripoff prices. All the old steel cylinders should be made into plough shears!!

Although we have the large Safefill 10kg bottle, why is it that when you are on a site miles from the nearest refill station, you seem to use twice as much gas as normal?

I an toying with the idea of buying a second 5kg bottle as a backup just in case as sometimes not always convenient to top up before a long trip.

Write your comments here...Yes I think a second back up bottle is on my wish list - I keep eyeing them on the shelves!

I now have one of each size and I find that the flexibility of the system is brilliant. However, I am not suggesting that it's sensible to go out and buy 3 Safefill cylinders- one of each size. ( I was fortunate in gaining the small one- a present!) however, the large one 10.3 Kg and the small 5Kg is worth a thought?

Hi Merve i see on the safefill web site that they are going to a few caravan events shortly so it looks like they are trying to get the word out there, lets just hope that they can convince the garages that its safe for them to be refilled

Write your comments here...Problem is for refillable gas there are very few pertol stations that sell gas.  BP are dropping out of the market and the rest are few and far between.

If they could just crack one of the major LPG multiples like Morrisons the word would soon get out.

I have said before and I say again- if we want cheaper gas - much cheaper gas- then it's up to us, the little guy. By sheer weight of numbers of people calling to fill Safefill cylinders garages will, one by one realise that they can't hold the flood back any longer and won't want to! They want to sell gas!! Well, with over a million caravanners- that's just caravanners- do we really think that filling won't become easier in the future? No- who in their right mind doesn't want to sell lots of what they sell?? Keep buying Safefill cylinders folks and do yourself a favour and everyone else who has been ripped off on exchange cylinder for years!! The future is here!!

I really hope your are right Merve but I suspect that it is not really commercially viable and will therefore just not happen.

I would be surprised if you were right DD. Over a million caravanners now and growing? Tenters, boaters etc? This to me sounds like the life saving move the retailers have been waiting for- they just need convincing that it is!! The more refillable cylinders there are about, the more the pressure grows for these garages and outlets to fill them - after all, who turns good business away? Just filled my 10.3 kg SAFEFILL- £12.50- I can live with that!

Many caravanners use ehu exclusively and therefore very little gas. I am away for a third of the year and use about 6kg of gas. Therefore I am happy to pay £16 for 3.9kg
