How much do you pay for your gas ?

Just cost me £32 for 2.75 kg of butane. A camping gaz 907 is the only thing that fits in my van but to make matters worse I gave them back 0.75 kg because I needed a full bottle  for Silverstone .l don't use much gas and mostly rely on a solar panel but CampingGaz make Dick Turpin look like a benevolent gentleman. Anyone with a campervan got a better solution ?

I have just paid £16.40 for a 6kg Calor propane bottle from a local hardware store.

I would have said at one time that that is a good price but now, it's still 3 times the price of gas for a Safefill or Gaslow system PH.

£17 for my 6 kg cylinder today at club site. Given we run on one cylinder for near two years because we use mainly electricity I cannot see Safefill attracting us.

Just filled a 10kg Safefill at 59p/L totalled just over £13. I calculated the break-even for Safefill versus BPGasLite and Calorlite here http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/community/discussions/welcome-hobby-talk/tips-for-making-caravanning-touring-cheaper/Safefill-10Kg/rt/1446515/ works out at about 3 fills (30kg - whether that lasts 4 months or 4 years depends on individual usage)

You do need to add the cylinder and gas totals. My feeling is it would take us at least six years and not sure I will still be fit enough by then.

I thought I would do a current evaluation of the relative costs of typical alternatives to a 10 Kg Safefill.

Rental/purchase cost £

Refill cost £

Kgs to break even with Safefill

Purchases to recoup Safefill investment

Based on the principal suppliers publish costs [£] on 26/07/2016 and Nation average price for LPG of 49.83 pence per litre and typical density of 0.53kg/litre.

Of these it should be noted that the Flo-gas 11 kg is a product used well outside the leisure industry. These include the building and roofing trades and my experience is that quite heavy discounting of the principal suppliers “suggested” retail cost are available. This would bias the figures quoted.

We have a 907 cylinder for our BBQ. We have also been quoted £32 for a refill, however we buy ours from a local caravan supplier (near Louth) at £20. Whilst this is still a high cost for 2.75kg it is convenient to have this size cylinder to suppliment our vans 6kg calor lite cylinders when abroad. The 907 cylinder being available in Europe of course. Hope this helps.

I do the same, carry a 907 both for a Cadac BBQ and as a back up to a Gas-Light when abroad. I also make a point of exchanging it in France, I own two that means I can take over an empty most years. Just done the checking off of the credit card slips and even with the sick £/Euro exchange rate we had a few weeks back it cost a little over £18.

Have just spoken to NEIL at Safefill. Anyone going to the IOW and looking for refill facilities on the island will be pleased to know that he has been approached by a retailer on the island who wants to join the Safefill revolution. I will post further details as I get them.
