Autogas, a concern?

We swapped to an on board autogas tank a while ago hoping to save time and money in the long run but we are noticing that many garages are having the refill facilities removed from their forecourts. It is now being suggested by several other owners that this is a growing trend and it is becoming a problem as they are finding it increasingly harder to locate providers whilst out and about on their tours. Have I made a mistake?

Merve, I've certainly mentioned it in the past, and the app.

one of the really good things about it is the verification of supply where a visitor can add a date and comment about their visit...

so you will know the last time someone visited (and posted).

obviously, not everyone updates the site, but there are sufficient responses to be able to be pretty sure that a site is open for LPG.

edit: just spotted Kjells reply and that's odd that a recent verification turns out to be wrong...they often include the time and the price of the gas....usually from a real transaction...

BTW, the website also has the full European list of POI data, again very useful.

Yes, we found it odd too, the pumps were still there but the money taking place was all closed up, and a huge for sale sign was in place.

Investigating further on line, it seems possible that the place has either moved, as there were 2 addresses given, or you have to go down behind where the forecourt is to some other buildings to get served, there was nothing obvious from the road.

No doubt, if you are a local you will know the ropes!

Good news is that the next place we will pass on our trip is open and does have LPG, ascertained by OH by phoning them.  There is also a second place near where we are going, CCC site in Dingwall, so we will take a look while we are there to see if they do indeed have LPG.

We had found an ASDA station in Dundee, which was on our way to Aberdeen, that did have LPG, before we travelled, but the following week it was posted as no longer having LPG, so pumps are certainly being removed.

I think that there are at least two reasons why CC would not provide a refill point.

A risk assessment would probably show that there would be no member of staff able to oversee to ensure that only suitable bottles were refilled and if by chance they did observe they would likely have no immediate means to stop the process.

There is unlikely to be enough members staying on site wishing to fill to justify expenditure.

You  very true last sentence is more than enough of an argument to not require the large investment needed across the club network installing LPG pumps

,The club have already invested heavily and continuing, to cater for poor design of Motor caravan waste outlets

as you've insisted on raising this 'issue' yet again.....yawn....surely it would have cost the club about the same (possibly even less) to have designed their waste points with a better, single, across the way grid rather than the multiple, heavy, iron trapdoors they decided on.

theyve obviously realised their error as they're redoing them all, properly wink

nothing to do with poor MH design in the least.

Poor waste outlet design on motor caravans it seems ,even with the new type club waste points, is still quite a topic when speaking to owners ,but do not let that get in the way of your "blinkered out look"wink

but back on track not even a bit of "blue sky thinking" could come up with a realistic reason for LPG pumps connected club site bulk tankssurprised

Well there is proof of simplicity, both BB and I can do it and we are still here to tell the tale laughing.  I also know that we can both use the different types of adaptors required when using continental pumps.  High five BB laughing

I am sure you can DD.I don't see the relevance though. As long as refill adapters are still being bought on Ebay for under £30 I can't see CC deciding to provide gas refill - can you?

JVB you have said that many times I have laughed at the stupidity of it each time.  Tell me, why thousands of service points for MH's are installed and working perfectly well both here and abroad and yet CC Ltd is incapable of getting it right?

On second thoughts don't bother.  This thread is not about service points and does not need to be diverted.

Posted on 05/04/2019 16:10

But then your "thousands?"are probably as incorrect as a lot of your posts , have not noticed the ccc sites in the UK or numerous commercial sites any better and as for your Great Bingham Grange how poor is/was that before cc  was that one of your "got it right" wink

I suspect we are talking about different adaptors but if you mean the sort that allows rental cylinders to be refilled then I agree they should not be used but I think they are very rarely used.  However, I guess it will be used as an excuse.

Posted on 05/04/2019 17:53

Looking at the number of sellers on Ebay for adaptors to fill calor bottles and recent reviews I assume that somebody is buying them DD and I have certainly seen videos by various UK wild campers showing how to fill. It certainly would be a consideration for any site manager doing a risk assessment DD
