Well hello everyone. We have been members for 7 years now and we our cancelling our membership.  The reason being that people book up several sites at once and just cancel what they dont want at the last minute. They do this because they dont have to pay a deposit. We did get into one once which was because of a last minute cancelation. When we got there people were suprised we got in and we was even told that you have to book in Jan on several sites and just cancel what you dont want. This is not the way to run things. If a deposit was asked people wouldnt do this. We have mentioned this before but nothing has changed.  Im not paying a membership when I cant book anything .

Still a hundred Club sites with vacancies this coming Saturday night 27th  July 2018 - yet this thread about leaving because can't book rolls on and on. The myth continues.

I have noticed over the years that peak season bookings have been falling, so I think you are now more likely to find availability now than perhaps in the shoulder season and of course if you are just looking for weekends then that could be even more difficult.

Although where we are at the moment is obviously not a holiday destination, (Chapel Lane) occupancy does seem low. Currently only 30 / 40% full, and only 60% this weekend, according to late availability. I think there were more here during the beast from the east in March.

It is hard to see how it breaks even as a site. Presumably the large storage compound helps to make it viable.

They could have included it in the mid week discount offer for August and saved me a few pounds.😉

We have been members for 16 years.  Our use of club sites is a very low average, mainly going to private sites, because we have met with difficulties over the years.  The main problem is if you want, say, a two or three weeks stay - then the already booked weekends prevent it.

So now, we have arranged our setup to be organised for simple, quick arrive and depart.  This gives us the easier chance of booking in 5-day slots. We advise the wardens that we are speculating on a weekend cancellation, which would allow us to stay longer.  Come Thursday, if nothing available, we can cancel under the 72 hour rule and move off.

Were a local CL available, we could go to that for the weekend, and return on the Monday.  Not a perfect arrangement, but at least one way around the problem.

It have to be remembered, if Brexit happens and Continental holidays become more complicated and/or too expensive, the demand for British holiday sites could increase enormously.

Whatever system is adopted, it will please some, and displease others, it's an indisputable fact.

There will always be people that abuse a system, to suit their own ends. At least we are told that the club is actively pursuing repeat offenders.

In keeping with pretty much all online forums, there will always be the 'keyboard warriors' who like to snipe in a non-constructive, and often a sarcastic manner, at others posts.

It serves no purpose, and can reduce an otherwise sensible, and friendly forum, into  "Jeremy Kyle's waiting room".

About 500 vacant pitches on Club Sites in Devon and Cornwall next Saturday night 18 August 2018.

And by Monday August 19th some are full again. Some are running at near capacity through the school holidays. It's likely that on Sunday people depart for home and others delay their arrival till Monday. A sensible idea when you look at the awful weekend traffic delays in the SW.

It is hard to see how it breaks even as a site. Presumably the large storage compound helps to make it viable.

Interesting to note that in a very old Site Directory from the previous century that I have, the entry for each site lists the number of storage pitches followed by the number of touring pitches.  Little change there.
