CC membership and the forum

What proportion of people posting on this forum are fully paid up members of the Caravan Club.?

My opinion is that outsiders ( non members) should only have read-only access to this forum.  Only paid up members of the CC should be able to post.

If only CC members were allowed to post on here, very biased  and one sided discussions will take place!

Yes I am a member, and I think that the wide ranging views we see on here are good for the forum, and would be useful to the CC if they read the threads.

K, I think the CC would be shortsighted if they stopped potential Members from posting on the Forum. The CC promote inclusivity, to then exclude potential Members strikes me as against that policy. I agree with PR1, it would be lacking unbiased input.

I am not sure there is any evidence that non members are major contributors, in actual numbers anyway,  to Club Together? Most, if not all, of the negative and anti Club posting actually comes from members!!! If you were to make it read only for non members you would exclude people like ValD who since the start of the forum has made a major contribution to the forum, especially in the Overseas Section. Ocassionally you get a 'non member' join to cause trouble but they are quickly spotted and removed by admin. I think the idea of it being an open forum was to encourage non members to join the Club which initially was quite successful but I have not seen any current statistics.

With respect  I have to disagree with R2b.--   In my opinion this forum is run by the CC on behalf of it's membership to further the help and assistance by CC members to other CC members and encourage the sharing of holiday and caravanning information common to CC members.

Non members and potential members I agree, should have read - only access and if after liking what they see, should put their hands in their pockets and become fully paid up members of CC  Wherapon they would be granted posting rights. Smile

There are loads of non- affilliated caravanning forums on the net for non-CC members to discuss caravanning. CoolSmile

Would you want to prevent a non-member being able to post helpful advice to a member, K?

We have a few ex-members who post frequently and are far less contentious in their posts than many fully paid up members. CT would be a poorer place without the non-members.

I think there is a good case for placing non-members on pre-moderation for their first few posts but, other than that, let em post away.

Further to my post above, IMO anybody who decides to leave the CC and  no longer pays their subscription,  they, being deemed a Non CC member should have their forum rights changed to read - only.  Unless of course they rejoin.

There are many advantages to my proposals, an increase in subscription income being only one of many   There would be  absolutely no disadvantages to the CC.  A definite Win Win for the Caravan Club

not offering up any particular opinion, but for info....some other forums allow read only to anyone, and offer a number of posts for free prior to becoming a member.

that number could be far higher on CT than the 5 allowed on Motorhomefun, for example.

nothing wrong with trying before you buy.....

As you said, K, it's only your opinion.

Can you seriously see someone who has left CC for whatever reason, or someone who doesn't want to be a member, forking out the membership fee just to use CT?

Good fun, eh?Wink

No worries K, neither of us are posting with insider knowledge, neither of us can speak on behalf of the CC. We both have an opinion only. I still believe the 'read only' option smacks of an exclusive club to members only, which to me harks back to the old days, not something I would have thought is particularly positive nor attractive for forward thinking companys. I dare say all options are being considered as the CC move forward, going backwards I doubt is one of themHappy
