Well, I've just had the email saying we have to register with the nhs test and trace app when arriving on site. As a couple we own standard old school phones which don't have the app facility so are we now discriminated against and can't enjoy our hobby?

For those who have the app  - I don't - have you noticed any major change in battery drain?  I get a day out of a battery normally but wouldnt want it to be less.

That's just not possible JVB. The details are just stored as codes that only Apple and Google, if anyone, could interpret. On past  form I don't think they are going give the police or even the intelligence services access. As I said the only other info in the App is the first four digits of our post code.

Oh they would also actually have to get hold of my phone, as information isn't stored on a central database as TW stated.

Steve, I think there is general confusion between the T&T manual tracing scheme where details are known and the anonymous app system.

No, BMB, no noticeable difference. It's possible to only turn it on when you want to use it, if that's your choice.

I think this is usual JVB  confusion Steve. Of course the identity of people actually  "spoken to" by the test and trace people is known and it is an offense (AFIK) to disobey their instructions. Simple getting an anonymized  text alert is an entirely different matter.

No not tied together. Although I think the authorities can get very basic info like the number of alerts and general area of the country. The main benifit is that it will warn you if you have been in close proximity to someone, 2 / 4 metres for 15 minutes, who later tests positive. Or for you to assist others you might have been close to by reporting your positive test. For ourselves who don't do public transport, restaurants etc,  we are unlikely to be close enough to those we don't know for long enough. For others who still have to work, use public transport etc, it is a valuable additional tool in the fight against the virus.
