With Great Big Green Week in full swing, I wanted to see if we could share ideas on how we can make our beloved hobby more sustainable. One of the key initiatives for this year's event is celebrating swaps to promote sustainability, and I believe our community has a wealth of creative ideas to contribute.

Sustainability is crucial, not just for the environment, but also for the future of our hobby. So, let's brainstorm together on what items or practices we can swap to help reduce our carbon footprint and make our adventures more eco-friendly.

Have you discovered any innovative products or techniques that have helped make your caravan or motorhome lifestyle more sustainable? Are there specific items you've swapped out that have had a positive impact on reducing waste or energy consumption? Share your experiences, tips, and suggestions with us!

Perhaps you've found eco-friendly alternatives to common caravan accessories, or maybe you've implemented a recycling system while on the road. Whatever it may be, your insights could inspire others in our community to make small changes that collectively lead to a significant positive impact.

Please use this discussion to exchange ideas, support each other in our sustainability efforts, and showcase the creativity and innovation within our community. If we can drive positive change we can ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the beauty of the great outdoors through our love of caravanning and motorhoming.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas on how we can swap for sustainability during Great Big Green Week and beyond!

The contaminated water from washing a vehicle is not like rain water at all, it’s polluted. Sadly the previous legislation and recommendations regaining commercial car washes was, forgive the pun, watered down some what 14 years ago. It was far more robust than this, the latest, which remains in place at present. Things may change!

Really? I've never noticed but I assume you have?

Indeed I have otherwise I would not have raised the subject. When I have engaged said owners in conversation, usually with the jovial comment, "You can do mine next" it turns out the outfit is kept in storage and it is convenient to clean it on site. Others just want to keep their pride and joy sparkling.

Ok, you've seen one but did you report them to the wardens? After all there is a ban for a good environmental, or green, reason.

As you have already pointed out by quoting the rules, I was not aware of a ban but common sense dictates this should be so. No I would not report it to a warden. I would more likely mention it to the offender who, like me, was more than likely not aware of a written rule.

The Club do allow you to clean parts of any vehicle where not to do so could cause a danger on the road, like a windscreen or headlights. What they don't want you to do is a full "shampoo and set"!!!

Yes David, wing mirrors too but I think we established what could be done some time ago. What we were discussing were the reasons why the rule exists, why some folk still chose to do that ‘full shampoo and set’ you refer to and what we would do, or expect to be done, if it was witnessed happening.

Ok, so not aware of a rule yet engaged with someone who was washing their outfit?

I disagree that more likely than not people don't know this rule, it's been there for years

Well now you know PD but certainly I would if I was as bothered about green issues as you are (as you brought this up) and that's a compliment btw, or it affected my stay.
