Hi everyone,

Following the very popular Coronavirus Concerns discussion, I have created this discussion to continue conversation around the Coronavirus where you can discuss with each other and share updates and concerns.

However, we do request that conversations and comments about politics are not posted as this inadvertently leads to disagreements and arguments as we have seen in previous discussions where we have needed to moderate posts. Please can you keep your conversation free from politics friendly and in the spirit of the community. A reminder of the Guidelines below:

Me neither, my bluetooth is always on, but set to be only discoverable by my 'paired' devices, such as the car.

That’s how we use ours M. We have a lot of devices in house, and it can get entertaining when we are using both phones, iPads and various speakers, headsets and the car. If OH is in car and ignition is on, I have to wait for him to drive off, otherwise he gets my secret phone calls to Sister๐Ÿ˜‚

It was just a general comment, you do have to make sure things are secure with Bluetooth, as with anything else.

I see there’s been another food factory outbreak, this time in Kirklees area. Local council didn’t see fit to inform local community, they found out via Handcock’s Hour.

I would consider leaving the bluetooth always on as an unnecessary power drain as with anything you are not using at the time..

Maybe, but it's always ready to pair with my cars'  Bluetooth like Metheven.

No value at all for these people. They will just have to rely on the track and trace system which has been launched.

Posted on 19/06/2020 19:19

Track and Trace is fine if (nearly) everyone gives the correct information, but at the moment about 25% of people with confirmed virus are either not giving any or the correct information so many possible cases cannot be traced.

As regards mobile phones in places like S Korea, something like 95% of the population has one and are, likely to download the app, much more than in this country, and so an app there is going to be so much more effective than over here. The attitude of a large number of people in the UK who dislike the fact that personal information will be used by outside sources to track them would certainly hinder the effectiveness of any app, as they are unlikely to download it.

This is disgraceful if this is true.  I have just copied part of this story from the BBC news report :- .............

“ During the briefing, Mr Hancock said: "Measuring distance is clearly mission critical to any contact-tracing app."

However, speaking to the Times, Apple said: "It is difficult to understand what these claims are as they haven't spoken to us."

The firm also pointed out that the tech was already either in use or intended for use in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Ireland.

The tech giant also expressed surprise that the UK was working on a new version of the contact-tracing app which incorporated the Apple-Google software tool.

"We've agreed to join forces with Google and Apple, to bring the best bits of both systems together," Mr Hancock said.

However, Apple said: "We don't know what they mean by this hybrid model. They haven't spoken to us about it." .............

๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿ˜ก Unbelievable!!!!!!

I quite agree with you. I don't think an app will be as effective in this country as it has been in some other countries. When you still see people travelling on public transport without face coverings, people not bothering about social distancing when out, etc. I get the impression that a large proportion of the population are not too bothered about the virus and wont bother to download the app, especially if they think they will have to self isolate for days if in contact with an infected person.

If people won't do as they are advised/asked to do, then having an app or track and trace is about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

We are seeing more and more people breaking the lockdown rules and not giving a dam.

Groups of more than 8 getting together in each others houses/gardens, more than one household meeting up in any one day. No one keeping their distance. Total madness they are treating it as if its all over.yell

Fully agree, TG, I'm still doing what I / we were advised to do yonks ago ~~  Stay as solitary as I can, take great care to avoid the muppets when shopping etc. So far I've only had one cuppa at aged sisters house and then she put my coffee on the table in the garden and there I sat & supped !!
