C&CC to Close Their Forum

I noticed a discussion on the above forum saying that the C&CC are going to close their forum from the end of this month. Some members have had an email with this information, although I have not received that email. They don't really give an explanation as to why but they are encouraging members to use other forms of Social Media. Only problem is that those members that don't use other "Social Media" are shut out from communications with fellow members.

They have also confirmed the closure of their Oxford and Isle of Wight sites. The reasons are:- "Oxford faced road infrastructure challenges and external development disruptions, while Adgestone's popularity has declined over the years, needing significant upgrades to return it to the standard that members rightly expect." Shame about Oxford, especially as we no longer have Bladon Chains. Another UK city without a campsite in reach by easy public transport.

Posts are removed because they breach CT guidelines and/or are off topic, it really is that simple. Posts are not removed for being critical of the club unless staff are named or labeled in some (usually) negative way

Additionally if a post is reported and then removed there there must have been some breach, reporting or objecting to a phrase does not automatically lead to its removal, only if it breaches guidelines. In my view it is not for posters to judge what is acceptable, mundane, or what is to be reported and what is not, that's the job of of CM.

Off topic so apologies.

That word “negativity” again. Surely it is of itself “negative” as it is judgmental about fellow posters?

It’s easy to write it; less easy to prove the assertion. Examples are rarely given. And if by “negative” posters mean “critical of the Club” then that is not always a negative thing. Constructive criticism can be very positive.

There are very positive and helpful threads. As examples, currently, threads about: a first time trip to France; help changing leisure batteries; advice on replacing a wheel spat; small private sites (the always helpful “sticky”) … four random choices …. There are others.

Totally agree WTG. I think most folks try to post in a helpful, informative way, and I also agree that it shouldn’t be construed as negativity all the time if someone chooses to express informed dissatisfaction with certain things the Club chooses to do. Any business needs constructive criticism, otherwise it won’t change positively.

Personal barbs directed at easily identified site staff or CL owners aren’t helpful, nor are petty grievances posted in the review section when someone makes a poorly researched choice of site, but the Club needs feedback of all sorts to improve its services. That’s why the latest booking system/deposit system has seen so many changes and alterations, because users have voiced their concerns.

There are a tiny number of occasional posters who jump at the chance to berate other CT users, wanting “examples” of this that and the other. But they don’t tend to contribute much else of value to CT, which in itself to me is a negative tone.

I find the comments on the ccc forum about members not being listened to and sites being too expensive interesting, especially as quite often there is also a comment about leaving the club and joining the other one I.e. CAMC!

The CCC is a bit of an unknown quantity to us. We joined for a year back in the 1990’s at the site in Haltwhistle. We were the only one’s there, as the site was just re opening after flooding, and we needed a pitch. To this day it’s the only CCC Club Site we have used, enjoyed it though.

We rejoined last year, having worked out that their CS network would give us more options, and more choice. Most CS sites have at least a loo and a shower, as they take tents as well. The two we found were happy to give us £5 per night discount if we didn’t hook up to electrics, so we paid £15 per night, in July/Aug, with superb facilities (one certainly rivalled Club Site facility provision). That’s far less than many CLs would charge us, let alone Club Sites, so we more than covered our joining fee. We hope to revisit one of those sites this week if weather allows. CCC Club Site prices don’t attract us, unless we opt for their offers (looking more attractive than this Club’s). We don’t qualify for age related discount.

I did glance at their forum, but it required too much personal info. As for TP, their rating is and always has been poor. They simply don’t respond.

For info, over 60s get the C&CC age related discount.

Thanks for that👍😁 I thought I had read somewhere that you had to have been a Member for so many years, like the NT, to qualify. Will check our Membership out. Some nice looking CCC sites not far from us.

That’s for veteran membership - half price annual fee if you’ve been a member for 25(?) years.

At 50 years they give you free annual membership, a badge and a certificate. I recently got mine🤣🤣🤣

Ah, I mixed up veteran with our current status, thought I had read something😁 That’s good news, we do qualify then. Take to the grass pitches mid week and we are laughing👏👏

The power of a decently supported forum has worked well this time👍
