Welcome to all Dog lovers & generally Canine minded Folk. I have started this to enable a Thread to be used-in the Pet section with a title 'I love Dogs' so there will be no problems with attracting the right Posters, and the 'wrong Posters' give it a swerverCool. I am mainly a working Dog Lover, I have had-J/Russells, Retrievers, Lurchers. Currently have 2 White Cockapoo's. Mum & Daughter. Not my kind of Dogs(at first) the OH fell in love with the Breed a year after losing the Retriever. Now I couldn't imagine life without them. You either love Dogs or don't, if you do then life without them really is empty. I feel for the none Dog Folk, not knowing the joys of owning Dogs. But I'm not stupid enough to believe just because I love em everyone should. So if you would like to talk Canine, please be my guestSmile

Hi Rocky

yes I love dogs too, but some owners leave a bit to be desired, the club rule about dogs on a lead at all times, like or not is there for the safety of us all, so why do some owners persist in not putting their dogs on a lead ' cos they are well behaved and have never bitten anyone' this of course may be true but  a) there is always a first time for everything and b) in case you haven't noticed dogs ain't robots, they do have a brain and a natural instinct. Don't get me wrong I love having my two off the lead but not on site, unless in a specified area and even then if I see an owner with a dog on the lead I will put mine on a lead. An owner with a dog on the lead is telling me that their dog does not get on with other dogs or people and I respect that. Just recently I was exercising my dogs off the lead in a field near where we live and another dog and owner appeared, his dog was off lead so I naturally assumed that his dog was sociable with other dogs. The guy started to shout and remonstrate, I said ' is there an issue here.' His response was ' my dog does not get on with other dogs'. Is it me or should his dog have been on a lead?

I could go on about the club rule about not letting your dog urinate but I haven't found a way of preventing this, particularly first thing in a morning.

turningal, welcome to the thread. You'll find that the vast majority of posters on here will agree with you re the rules of leads. A Dog does not come with a guarantee of safety with Humans or other Dogs. It is up to us to ensure it is trained & socialized & if it ain't then it should never be off the lead at all-no ifs or buts. We all love our Dogs but realise not everyone does, respect for others is a cornerstone of Dog ownership, anyone who disagrees shouldn't have a Dog. In the worse case scenario & a Dog attacks then it'll be the Dog that will be destroyed not the idiot owner that let it happenfrown. I hope you continue to post here, it's good to share our stories or just thoughts with like minded folk.

The CC rules state that dogs should be on a lead whenever they are on a CC campsite.  As caring dog owners we should always comply with that rule.

As regards allowing a dog micturate and defecate on site, (unless it is within the designated Dog Walk) it is clearly antisocial behaviour and should not be tolerated by anybody

We all love our dogs and like them to accompany us when on holiday but we should make sure that the dog does not spoil the enjoyment of the other campers.

Cheers......................K

Hi, turningal. It's good to hear your views. Our last dog was a lovely boy in all ways bar one - he hated other dogs and would fly at them. Although, he never hurt a dog, he would pin it down and give it a good talking to. Consequently, he could only be let off his lead in secure dog free conditions.

I appreciate hearing that you put yours on leads when you see another dog on a lead as I've lost count of the number of times out of control dogs came running up to ours when he was on a lead and received a telling off from him. Apparently, it was always our fault despite him being on a lead and the other dogs running loose and failing to respond to their owners! People, huh?

The most important thing about dog ownership is that you care for your dog ...... nobody should dictate what you dress your dog or yourself in, it's called free will.

I still can't stop my dogs urinating when they feel the need. So that's one rule I can't keep ..... anti social, yes ok I will have to take that, is it a 'kick me out the caravan club' offence by the way have you seen the state that some members leave the showers and toilets!

Turningal, it's not a sackable offence. See the section about responsible behaviour on site.

https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/globalassets/pdfs/content/uk-holidays/visiting-club-sites-with-dogs.pdf

Dogs pee, it's a fact of life. Responsible behaviour means attempting to take your dogs off site or to the dog walk and not letting them pee on someone else's pitch - not on yours either, not letting them cock a leg over someone's awning, aquaroll, tow hitch, the wardens plant pots etc. In short, doing all you can to avoid annoying others. You won't always succeed and sometimes you will annoy people merely by having the audacity to turn up with two quiet, well behaved dogs. I think you'll find, though, that most of us will welcome the chance to meet new canine friends.

Enjoy your dogs and enjoy your vanning.
