Mole Traps

I was disgusted to find out that Caravan Club Policy is to trap and kill moles.

I saw a man setting mole traps along the external and internal perimeter hedge at the entrance to Old Hartley Club Site on Sunday 19 September 2021.

I enquired if he was setting mole traps and he said yes. I asked if that was ethical and humane. He said it was better than seeing mole hills. I said 'is it really?'. He said it was Caravan Club Policy.

As Members surely we have the right to decide whether we'd be happy seeing mole hills, or whether we'd prefer to trap and kill moles, sometimes not immediately killing them and leaving them to suffer.

I wonder why the Wardens can't just remove the erupted earth if it's deemed unsightly?

On top of this, what if a dog dug them up and got injured.  Many terriers and hounds would be very interested in digging where something like a trap has been buried.

Moles are not the enemy, they aerate soil and eat pests...see link below:

https://www.rspca.org.uk/documents/1494935/9042554/Living+with+-+moles+-+formatted+%28V1.2%29+-+2017.pdf/61a0a5f6-b28e-c46e-042d-5b8fecf54207?t=1553171460360&download=true

I would like to see Members being given the opportunity to vote on such cruel practices and whether they feel their Club should continue with them.

In my opinion, if people think natural occurrences like mole hills are unsightly they should question why they want to go caravanning - isn't it getting out into nature, not being in pristine, bowling green like sites?

I'd be interested to hear other people's views on the subject.

Just back from shopping in a Spanish  Carrefour supermarket  and saw something thing  that would some here nightmares. A freezer full of complete piglets deep frozen and shrink wrapped . I wouldn't know how to tackle cooking one but do have great  memories of suckling pigs cooked over an open fire in Sardinia and Majorca .

I’m afraid it won’t work AD, just because folk don’t think animals should be made to suffer it doesn’t naturally follow they should attack those that eat meat. I have no issues with meat eaters, cruel people I don’t like👍🏻. What & how I eat is my business likewise what others eat is their business, I’m personally not on an anti carnivore rant👍🏻

As it was my post you are referring to AD I take issue with your comments as I've not said anywhere that I would report a CL owner for having 6 vans on it.

Get your facts straight before attacking people.

As an aside the act states the following in relation to the release of, specifically, rats:

...it is an offence to release certain species, such as the black rat (Rattus rattus) or fat dormouse (G. glis) into the wild (except under licence); this means that the use of a live-catch trap in relocating such a rodent would constitute an offence.

The Rat in question was a Brown Rat and therefore not governed under the act. Black Rats are rare species in the UK and certainly not found around here. It was released into the same environment from where it came and within 15 minutes of it being captured.

As my previous post stated I have did not make any such comment about CLs.

Do you sit around wondering who you can attack next?

I'm pretty disgusted with your post to be honest AD.

Good factual post, WN👏🏻.

It's a shame for the OP that some folk seem determined to get the thread closed😤

I for one would be quite happy to see the last page or so of comments Deleted User so that the OP can get his thread back on line TW.

The CL I vacated yesterday had numerous molehills. One managed to create a mound on my last night just a few inches from my front wheel. Just so long as they don't start chewing my tyres!

Thank you WN and TW.  As previously mentioned I'm new to all this and was accused of being a 'Moderator in the making' when I tried to keep the subject on track.

I don't know forum etiquette, so rather than offend anyone else I thought it best to just keep quiet.

If the thread does get closed, I will endeavour to get my response from CMC known to you all...supporters and non-supporters, as I promised to do right back at the beginning, and for the record I'm female! laughing
