What is the obsession with attracting the yoof

Have been reading an interesting take on the above, and is it needed ?as

1 The over 65s is 17.8% now rising to 23,6 % by 2045

2 If the major clubs and commercial organisations want to fill sites mid week off peak and school holidays its the older generations they need to concentrate on as they /we have the time to do it

3 Over 50s now hold 70% of the UKs household wealth

4 Older people are more likely to take to our lifestyle as it it is not sneered at or micky taken as the younger tend to worry about?

5 People of us older generation are more likely to know some one who already is with our life style and will give them tips as to how to start and give them advise on the advantages compared to other leisure activities

Well something needs to be done attract the punters in - whether they are youthful or elderly doesn't matter much.

Face the facts and look at the figures - Hillhead and Looe, two flagship Club sites with all the trimmings and in good locations. Each of those sites has 150 vacant pitches this weekend. Weekend, not midweek.

I noticed all the sites in the SW had lots of empty pitches over the bank holiday. People only travel here in the summer! Are they cutting back on expenses due to inflation hitting home?

Plenty of sites in other parts of the countries don't and they are not flagship sites. I suspect that it is down to the area. We have been on North West and Yorkshire and sites have been pretty much full over last 5 weekends.

Maybe families travel to these 'flagship' sites during main holidays only regardless of 'all the trimmings'?

No I suppose not, you'll find more locals on SW sites for bank holiday weekends, same for elsewhere no doubt.

You may be correct, David, about an increase in M/H sales - I just don't know. The other question that needs to be answered, though, is who is buying them. What age group do they fall into?

If, as I suspect, it is older people, (and I'm using that term very broadly), who are buying M/Hs and may have done the same as you and changed from a caravan to a motorhome, it still means that the younger generation will not be taking up the hobby. They haven't the time available during the week and, dare I suggest it, many don't have the money available to buy an outfit in the first place.

When I went to the Central Region Question time,  a few months back, one of the guests was a representative from Spinney Caravans (they deal with motorhomes too).  He confirmed abut the increase in motorhome sales and the more static caravan market.  He also said they were seeing an increasing number of younger folk who were purchasing motorhomes.  They were purchasing using the PCP scheme. (Personal Contract Purchase).

Posting that there 150 vacant pitches is a 'fact' that doesn't tell us anything.  Only the club knows if this is average, above or below average. You're posting it as poor result when in fact it could be very good or just the norm for this time of year? Also again you have to compare it with what non club sites are doing in the same area, Maybe they are even emptier?
