Have been reading an interesting take on the above, and is it needed ?as

1 The over 65s is 17.8% now rising to 23,6 % by 2045

2 If the major clubs and commercial organisations want to fill sites mid week off peak and school holidays its the older generations they need to concentrate on as they /we have the time to do it

3 Over 50s now hold 70% of the UKs household wealth

4 Older people are more likely to take to our lifestyle as it it is not sneered at or micky taken as the younger tend to worry about?

5 People of us older generation are more likely to know some one who already is with our life style and will give them tips as to how to start and give them advise on the advantages compared to other leisure activities

Not quite. My favourite sites have been without facilities. If the site has facilities then I will make some use having paid for them. If folk do not want to pay for facilities then they should indeed go elsewhere. As for those wanting a cheap night halt then as far as I am concerned if they use a facility site they should pay sameas me. If I go off site before 9am and return at 6 or 7pm I get no discount either

A good few of the Club's no facility sites are heavily discounted, hence the stay for £14.50 a night range, as opposed to paying £25-30 per night for a full facility site.

When you go off site, then surely you leave behind your caravan, on a pitch? This is a bit different to a one night park up space for a MH? I would have no issues with just parking up and using own facilities if it was at a cheaper rate.

Sorry ValDa  -  Can only recall it being somewhere on the Atlantic Coast.  We don’t return to the same sites except maybe from & to ferries.  Too many out there, too much to explore.

If a motorhome is using a pitch at night the pitch is still taken. Not as if folk use a pitch all day and go off site allnight.

I don't think most new MH owners would ask for the world on Club Sites. A park up pitch between 8pm and 10am, with or without being able to have a shower would be a good start. Away from main site area, leave the landscaped pitches for long stays and caravans. Max of five on a Club Site, wouldn't want to be greedy. Metered electric to give a choice. Call them Onsies, one night only stays!

Posted on 17/05/2017 17:23

Is that not what is available on the majority of sites from both clubs comercials might not like it but the clubs accept itwink

And maybe the "heavily discounted sites?"what ever that means, do also not have the costs of some of the ,more popular sites  that charge over £20, both clubs of coursewink

Sorry but I don't quite get your reply ET. If you get up and leave your van in the morning, and then come back at night, then that will be a two night stay? (Unless you move on late at night).  If I leave in the morning in the MH and don't return, then that is a one night stay? That's the point I was trying to make. It's a very short take up of a facility, discounted for a one night take up. As oppose to leaving behind something on a pitch. If we were intending staying for more than one night, then would book an undiscounted pitch.

Condition of the discounted pitch would be to arrive after a certain time, say after 7pm, then leave prior to 10am.

No they don't. No toilets, showers, hairdryers, sanitary bin collections, soap dispensers to fill, laundries to have PAT Tested, buildings to maintain, heat and clean.

Hence the operating costs are a lot lower, usually staffed by one couple with reliefs. Some are little more than large CLs, leased by the Club. Nunnykirk for example. The Club has kept these sites at a low cost compared with other sites with more facilities. Sadly these are the ones that are being lost.

So they are not as you say "heavily discounted" but much cheaper to run/maintain so are costed as such, wink

Whether you or I sleep on pitch it is a pitch taken. If a site has facilities then I see no reason to discount one night stays.

Got you now ET. That's why at the moment we go elsewhere for one night stays, or use no facility Club Sites, the few that are left.
