Posted on 21/11/2018 14:33 by Bakers2KjellNN sounds like youre keeping occupied đ. 7 month's is about par for house sales down here! And usually involves shipping out and in on the same day so 'improvements' are once youre in situ. You're very lucky to be able to help your daughter and she, and the family, are extremely lucky to have such reliable 'free' help on tap. We were lucky enough to get the keys to our house after exchange of contracts giving us 4 weeks to clean and decorate before we moved in. We needed it as house had been let out to students đ˛đ˛. OH called in for a couple of hours on his way to the station for his commute and my dear FIL came down after he'd finished work. We certainly weren't finished by moving day but at least it was clean and tidy and we could sleep in our rooms, our daughter was a very active 18 month old. I was lucky to be a stay at home mum, but money was tight - happy memories đ
Spoke to my optician today and found the NICE guidelines on cataract op. Not sure how to describe how I feel. The guidelines changed October 2017 and I quote one pertinent part
Do not restrict access to cataract surgery on the basis of visual acuity.so it appears the consultant was incorrect. If I'd had the info to hand yesterday would it have made any difference? It would have me feel better, but I'm not sure it would have made the appointment any more pleasant. Also checked up on wearing if lenses and changing of eye shape đ˛đ˛, my optician was amazed!
Chalking it up to experience and will approach my doctor, as suggested by the optician, in a few weeks for fresh referral, hopefully not to the same consultant! What a waste of resources! Also still left with the impression he was touting for private work. I ought to complain and maybe I will after it's all sorted, one never knows if your 'cards are marked'
That aside a sunny but chilly day, dog and I had lovely walk on the local estate. OH not too good at all today hopefully a 24 hour bug. (He's saying did he catch it yesterday at the appointment?)
Off to make some soup now, tomorrow I have to take mum to a follow up appointment after her plastic surgery. Different hospital. Fingers crossed đ

Posted on 21/11/2018 21:24 by milliehullBakers2 do you have to be referred for your cataract by your GP? OH was referred by our optician (specsavers) and I have been told that when mine is ready (?) they will refer me as well.

Tammygirl good luck with your next appointment with GP. Not had HRT but a friend took it and reckoned it was magic. Similar situation to you she threatened to commit murder but it was still taken away. She's not been happy in many ways and finds life tough without it. Radio 4 had something about risks of it recently, m ight be worth a search for it. I'll try myself.
Edit it may have been this

Sorry once again it gives an error.
Search on radio iPlayer or sounds as it's been renamed brings up woman's hour programmes on it too. Knowledge is power đ

Each of our 3 house moves have been very different. Our first house after we moved back to UK from Norway was bought while we were staying with OH's parents. The house was basically fine, but the decor was terrible......orange gloss paint on the stairwell walls, dark purple in the lounge, and red wallpaper with white horses in the dining room!
We only moved in once we had redecorated everywhere and fitted new carpets where required.
With our second move, we moved out the week before we moved in, OH and DS stayed with her parents and I stayed in our caravan which we had loaned to friends who were building a house, as I still had a final week at my old work. Furniture was stored for a couple of weeks to give us time to decorate and get carpets once we got the keys.
Our third move was to our present house, which we had built to our design, and we spent 12 months in a rented place with half our stuff in storage. The electricity was only connected the day we moved in, the gas the day after, and the carpets failed to arrive on time.
Many do move out and in on the same day, or stay with relatives and store furniture if that is not possible. DS and family had a week between moving in and moving out, to do some decorating and get some new carpets, he arranged a bridging loan.
DD has been very lucky as her brother was able to assist with what we thought would be a short term loan, enabling her to get entry and start getting the place sorted before moving out of the old house.
Unfortunately there has turned out to be more work to do than originally anticipated, and the selling of the old house has taken MUCH longer than expected.
Just as well she does not have an actual bridging loan! She will however have been paying 2 mortgages for 4 months.

Today very cold and started off with heavy snow here in the Cotswolds, although not much stuck. Decided on a trip to Cheltenham, where we might get a bit more protection from the biting wind. Had an interesting explore, lunch in John Lewis, stocked up on Nespresso pods and visited the birthplace of Gustav Holst. Had no idea he hailed from a small terraced house in Cheltenham. There is also a statue of him in the town. He only spent the first few years of his life in the house, however it is now preserved, by a charitable trust, as it would have been when he lived there. It contains many of his possessions donated by his daughter, including the piano, bought for £12, on which he composed the Planets Suite.

There was a lovely BBC programme the other night about the friendship between Holst and Vaughan Williams. The music and some of the filming on the Malverns was beautifully done.
Just been out to see Show of Hands, wow! A really good evening. They're in Norwich tomorrow, final stint is Exmouth.

Holst was organist at Th after church in Essex and I believe was at the time of writing the planet suite.
I do hope I've remembered correctly, school was a long time ago đđ.
Our houses at senior school were named for local famous folk. One was named after Holst, Clausen the painter worked in Lindsell. Lukin, Lionel Lukin designed and built the first self righting lifeboat in Great Dunmow - testing it on The Doctors Pond which still exists as was today đ and Wells for H G Wells authour, having trouble recalling where he fitted in but possibly Thaxted.
Very frosty here this morning was frosty by 8.30pm last night - but was dripping in the mist/low cloud by 0830 am. Not had snow here or the chilly wind as yet đ.
OH brighter this morning so hopefully that's it. Chores and decent dog walk before taking mum for hospital appointment at 4.15 pm, last time clinic running an hour behind and appointment was 11am - wonder what the chances of being seen on time are? đđ

Another dull and grey day but not as wet as previous days. Have to go out food shopping today fridge is looking empty.
OH doing his ironing at the moment while I have a catch up on here.
Glad OH feeling better today Bakers, hope you Mums appointment goes well and is on time
I'm trying to get an appointment with my female Dr (not easy) been offered 5th Dec. but if I ring at 8am I might get an on the day appointment. Problem is she only works part time and is a very popular Dr. The HRT patches I'm on I've just found out are no longer being made by the same company and the new company are not releasing any until Feb. next year I need them now, so having to go back to see Dr and try and get prescription changed to something else. This on top of the male Dr insisting he thinks I should come off them stress levels going through the roof, head banging. Think I will have to take something, didn't get a good sleep last night.
