As we were in the area, called in at the caravan dealer to see if they had an update on delivery of our new van, still a few more weeks to wait.π’ They explained the hand over process, very thorough and then said we can have a couple of nights "free" at one of their 2 sites after we pick it up. We can then makes sure everything works correctly and hopefully no faults.
Home now, roast pork and all the trimmings being cooked, wine at the ready, cosy night in for two.πβΊ

Posted on 12/02/2017 09:39 by SteveLMalcolm, I would not normally comment on this sort of topic, as of course it is up to yourself to decide what is best for you. However, this so called boss of yours seems so uncaring and money motivated, that feel I must voice an opinion.
Given your stirling work for the firm, if you told them you were taking time off to get fully better before commencing work again, they would be a fool not to take you back. However, from my perspective it seems you are currently working to fund your new smart car, which is more or less exclusively used for business use, as you get so little time off. This surely is economic madness.
Would you not be better off getting a job in a supermarket, or B&Q type establishment. You could even both get a job and be pulling in two wages, rather than the current one between you. The hours would certainly be less. I don't know about the remuneration, but you would not need to buy so much fuel, or put so many miles on the car, there would be no need for business use insurance and you could possibly go back to only one vehicle. If it was a supermarket you also get a discount card, so your food shopping would be cheaper.
However, whatever you decide look after your health. Your current employer obviously has no concerns. He will just discard and re-employ. He seems to have made that clear. Personally I would not want to work for someone like that.

The boss may say that he can get another driver but the reality is very different. In the past when he tried to recruit another driver, he had no end of problems during the couple of months that the driver was there and eventually the driver left for a better job elsewhere having spent two months dissatisfied with the pay and working conditions.
A single person driver cannot do this job because of the parking restrictions in the town centre. The traffic wardens are constantly patrolling the area so that if you stop outside Macdonalds to collect an order, you get a parking offence ticket which costs £35. It needs two people so that one can stay with the car whilst the other collects the order.
After 6 p.m. there's no parking restrictions so he might be able to get a single driver to work after 6 but then who's going to do the lunchtime orders? So whatever the boss may say, it seems he's stuck with us whether he likes it or not. That's why he has compromised by agreeing to reduce our hours to seven hours a day and allowing us one day a week off.
For us, this will mean having every evening to ourselves instead of having to work up to 11 p.m. every night.

Just a thought for you Malc, eventually it happens in all our lives where age and illness affects our way of life. Hopefully the majority of people have planned for this occurrence and its called retirement, its where we can still pay the bills, still manage our finances, still able to handle the odd blip in our health and arrange our holidays in between. By this time we usually have sorted our finances and are happy that we can live out our later years with no worries.
You seem to have none of this, and if an illness affects your working income you are in **** street. You are on state pension where you should not have to work now, sort yourself out for a happy retirement not one where it will surely pull you down.
