We still have several branches within a couple of miles as we stay an equal distance from 2 villages.  3 in one place and 4 in the other.

However, I would not be aurprised if TSB, Clydesdale and BOS close one branch as they are all always pretty quiet these days when we do visit.

Personally, we use mainly internet banking, but OH is also the Guide Hall treasurer so does have cash and cheques to deposit now and again, and change to obtain for fund raising events, so we hope at least one branch of BOS  will remain open!

There are plenty of local shops and businesses who use the business banking side, so I would expect all the local banks would maintain a local presence somewhere.

Up until last year, there was an HSBC branch in Goring-by-sea which I used to use to deposit cash but that has since closed. So now it's either Durrington or Worthing town centre. There's still a post office in Goring though.

We have a PO in the village but no bank and never have had but we do have a mobile BOS van that visits every week. The town is 7 miles away with plenty of banks so we don't do too bad on that account here.

I wonder what would produce a stampede in the UK if there was a 70% price reduction.....? wink

Anything can and does cause a stampede. There was a broccoli shortage a few years ago and when shops got some stock the shelves were cleared. I was pleased to see such a demand for healthy veg wink

I suppose the early "Black Friday" was the nearest we came to a riot? Mind you going a lot further some will remember the toilet roll  and sugar shortages of years gone by.

The fuel blockade was interesting, seems to bring out the worst in folks. We were away at the time, touring SW and wending our way home with van on back. We had stopped off in Hereford, little site built on railway line. It was so funny listening to folks discussing if the Club would waive the 21 day rule if no one could get any fuel! We never did find out, but I wonder what members did if the Club enforced the rule? laughing
