They are sometimes out of date. You can check date of last inspection. You can also check which element they may have not scored highly on.🍻

Whilst I understand and agree with some of the comments made, I rather got the impression that the pub chain in question was forbidding the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices inside their pubs for any purpose. Therefore texting or checking the weather would not be allowed. You therefore have the situation where a person can buy a drink, read a newspaper, do a crossword etc but only in the printed form. Carrying out the very same tasks on an electronic device would require the person to go outside which to my mind seems ridiculous.

The memo in the report from the OP specifically mentions receiving transmitted pictures of sport or download music apps. Perhaps they have had folk grouped round a pad watching something on Sky Sport, which I suspect would not be totally legal. Rather than just have a quiet word, they have totally overreacted with a total ban.

I've only very quickly skimmed through it, but isn't that just for the landlord? Surely I can watch iPlayer or Sky Sports on my phone (I can't actually do Sky on my phone .... I don't have it home either smile)

You can, but doing it in a public place and sharing it with others could be said to be breaching the copyright and licencing laws.  By doing it in a pub the landlord, whether he is aware or not, can also be held in breach.  It's a minefield and it is understandable that a landlord would be very careful.

So employers need to get an entertainments licence for those that all watch sport on a laptop/tablet in the canteen .... 🤔

On many film DVD's, the bit it is difficult to skip at the beginning, mentions just those sort of venues as prohibited for screening without a licence. In the context of your canteen, I guess it would depend on if it was personal use or not. Clearly you can watch a film or sport programme whilst sat on a train. The adverts for the tech show folk doing that. However, how many folk round the canteen lap top before it becomes an issue. I think a very murky area and one the chains owners might be trying to avoid.

If it is the case though, and I was only speculating, I think it a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
