Pro's and con's for buying an electric vehicle

After reading the posts, I don't think the EV is suitable for me. They are advertised as an Urban vehicle, which rules me out.

I am sure that city / large town dwellers, where the air is most polluted will welcome them.

No problems for us, it's all part of the advanced technology. We can press a button in the roof, BMW will come to our rescue. laughing

By the way, Nav, what would happen if your own car came to a standstill and nothing worked?

I doubt that there are many of us daft enough to drive beyond our available range regarding fuel Brue

No that's true, as with most types of modern cars there are on screen electronics telling you what is happening if not there is a wonderful thing inside our heads, jam packed with technology. laughing

I would never let my fuel reserve drop below about 120 miles. That's a bit difficult to achieve with a Smart EV though wink

Depress clutch, put gears in neutral, steer to a safe(er) spot.

Does a Smart EV have a clutch? Can you disengage the drive train if the battery is dead?

It has a Neutral Position on the selector, like our Yaris petrol auto. So one assumes it could free wheel.

Our EV, has drive, park (brake) and reverse, there is no conventional engine to think about. Single speed transmission drives the electronic motor. It also has a selection of drives...comfort, eco pro, range extender etc.

Serious question here.

Obviously, it is apparent that HMG have decided to do away with fossil fuelled vehicles in the future and move to alternative propulsion vehicles i.e Electric etc.

Now, in case I missed it over the pages of posts on here,or anywhere else, nobody has yet said where or how all the additional electricity is coming from for this.

There are currently over 36 million vehicles on the road, if half of those become EV's I just don't see it working.

I mean who is going to supply it and how? I can't get my head around it really. It all sounds like pie in the sky to me.

I doubt it will affect me in the distant future but I'm just curious, now.

Well what they are saying is that in the UK in 23 years time there will not be cars using just fossil fuel manufactured. The government are not saying that hybrids will stop being constructed from what I read.
