Pro's and con's for buying an electric vehicle

After reading the posts, I don't think the EV is suitable for me. They are advertised as an Urban vehicle, which rules me out.

I am sure that city / large town dwellers, where the air is most polluted will welcome them.

The Smart with its smaller battery can be charged 80% in 20 minutes according to the Smart website

I read 45 mins for their 2018 model which is the same as Malc quoted.

45 minutes will do me nicely, EasyT. I can do it and have my lunch break at the same time! Also I don't need to buy lunch, my wife always prepares a packed lunch to take in the car.

More expense there then!

There is only so much tea / coffee I can drink on a long journey.

All I want to do is get where I'm going in the shortest time possible.

As stated, currently, with the very few charging points available, what happens if there is a queue, more lost journey time or more drinks?? wink

No such expense for us, Yertiz. My wife always makes a flask of tea to bring with us in the car!

Not if you've got your car plugged in, she won't wink

Mind you, could always use the gas!

Oh no, sorry, that's £25 and you don't use it anyway wink

Oh yes she will, Yertiz. The car will be unplugged whilst the kettle is on and then plugged in again once the water has boiled! If we kept spending money on gas at that rate, we will end up bankrupt!  There are times when we have to use gas, such as when parked in a layby and travelling between sites but our usage is so little that one cylinder has lasted more than a year and there's still gas left in it!

Even when there's no electric, we try not to run the Alde heating on gas. My wife prefers to wear a thick coat to keep warm than use the heating on gas!

Why does the phrase 'Penny wise and Pound foolish' keep entering my head?

Hardly going to go "bankrupt" on that sort of usage then, I'd have thought.

Nice to see you have a plan but what a lot of faffing about just to have a cup of tea undecided

There's also the saying that if you look after the pennies, the pounds take care of themselves, EasyT!

My wife is quite happy to faff about if it saves money, especially as she's a full-time housewife and has to survive on my limited income!

Err, why does your wife have to faff about, couldn't you do that?

A full time housewife in a touring caravan, can't take that much effort to keep it clean and tidy, unless you're a mucky so & so. wink

If it does ,the speed will depend on the choice of footwear surprised

Add pedals in the back, then kids can pedal.
