New Pound Coin

The new 12 sided pound coin comes into use today.

I believe the old ones can still be used until 15 October, so we will have two types in circulation.

Apparently, a lot of vending and ticket machines (car parks etc) and shopping trolleys haven't yet been adapted to accept the new coins.......so we could be some fun and games for a while!

I wonder how many parking meters will become pay by phone only? Great excuse now. Money saving will be justification as won't need to empty coins. Can't imagine the cost for all the trollies, I'm off mine 😉, vending machines, lockers etc. I guess all costs will be passed on 😯

Wow seems to be 2 threads by you with same title but my singular post appears in both.

Such are the vagaries of CT. Something new and different at every turn - intentional or not 😂

I can only see one thread which is closed but if I click on it again the second one appears. Strange.

Not  been  into  any  shops  etc  today  so  I've  not  seen  one  yet.

But  I  don't  understand  why  there  has  been  such  a  big  change ?  I  believe  it's  smaller  and  lighter  than  before and  so  every  mechanism  using  them  needs  to  be  changed/adapted  to  take  them --  seems  utterly  pointless  to  me.  Change  them  by  all means  but  this  seems  an  expensive  step  {for  the  population}  too  far  !

As I understand it there's very limited circulation of theses new coins. Only 33 banks and post offices have been issued with them yesterday. The nearest one to us was in Leeds. I guess it'll take a while for them to filter through.🤓
