New Pound Coin

The new 12 sided pound coin comes into use today.

I believe the old ones can still be used until 15 October, so we will have two types in circulation.

Apparently, a lot of vending and ticket machines (car parks etc) and shopping trolleys haven't yet been adapted to accept the new coins.......so we could be some fun and games for a while!

They certainly haven't reached Peterborough yet. undecided.  I wonder whether some supermarkets will issue trolley tokens like some in France do.  It would seem sensible and then they wouldn't have to keep changing them every time the currency changes.  A boss of an amusement arcade was on the TV last night and said they are going to issue cards similar to a credit card that you will be able to load with us much or as little money as you like as he is fed up with having to change all the machines and said it would cost them many thousands of pounds.  Bakers2, I hate the idea of paying to park by phone. I find it such a fiddle and I don't like having to get my phone and bank card out in a dark car park at night. Also someone was telling me yesterday that she had paid by phone recently and the warden still stuck a parking ticket on her car as she didn't have a ticket on the dash board and she then had to contest it - what a palaver yell

Millie

We have several of those French tokens for supermarket trolleys and rarely use a pound coin in this country. I suppose they won't work once they have changed everything?

No David. I would assume not as they will be a different weight and shape.  Neither will my trolley token that I bought from a charity and keep on my key ring.frown

Wow this thread is hard to get at to read, endless 0 replies after I'd logged in 😣 but finally made it.

Milliehull I have never paid anything on my phone nor do I want to I certainly didn't mean to give that impression at all. Just the sort of reason councils looki g for, very discrimating as hubby wont use a mobile! Full sympathies to your friend having to contest what a waste of her time. I always walked to work but local council run car park, for that read old coal yard from the disused gas works, adjacent where others parked,  we'd watch from the staff room as the parking attendant slapped on tickets. One day one of the women shouted that's my car he's at and shot off we all watched an animated conversation 😂😂. Upshot she got a ticket, he'd started so he'd finish, as she closed her car door the wind caught the ticket, reduced to thin paper, and dislodged from the dashboard. Took her months to resolve it. Our car has a clip on the windscreen to put parking ticket in. Hubby was very worried when we had to have a new windscreen and told them it was staying. It did as was not part of windscreen actually. Apparently the later models don't have this very handy sensible fixture,.  Progress?

I have tokens for supermarket trollies never have to worry about change. Handing them to customers has got to be more cost effective for business surely??

I think the card sounds good for slot machines, not that I play them, but definitely  sensible. Won't catch on for that reason alone!

Hope I might get one today 😃.

Just had my hair done found a good hairdresser locally second cut this time course too 😆. Off to walk into town for lunch and catch up with a friend.

It took me ages as well to get on to this thread Bakers2.  Endless 'discussion locked' and 0 replies. yell Mr H has a mobile phone but doesn't use it.  I'm not sure that he knows how toundecided laughing I don't like the idea of my bank card details being used by phone either.  Oh well, we shall all see what happens.

I never saw the point in a separate token for trolleys. Normally this time of the year we stock up the 'ashtray' in our X-Trail with pound coins, fifties and twenties for use in parking machines in car parks. Might just use fifties and twenties this time.

I went to the bank today to draw out some pound coins for parking when I go to CAB.

The lady was going to give me the new ones, but I asked for the old ones instead, as the parking machines haven't been converted yet.

The new ones looked very shiny and bright.
