Get on youtube Admiral and have a look at how many deal with this type of "harassment" these days from those that seem to have nothing better too do Undecided. Its a real eye opener.Take the road traffic "act" for instance.Acts are NOT laws for a start and when stopped you are under no obligation too answer any questions not even your name. Also to everybody i say get your mobile phone out and record everything that is said and done for your own protection and future reference.

TF will confirm, (I hope) that Road Traffic Acts are law, enacted by Parliament and, if stopped by a police officer in uniform, you are surely required to answer certain specific questions in order for him to identify you and produce documents, if required.

OH was recently passed some up to date information regarding just how vigilant or otherwise certain Constabularies are with regard to RT infringements. Some have an absolute zero tolerance, so the old speed limit + whatever % over does not apply in some circumstances, and anything over the limit will be penalised. Durham being a case in point, so beware you A1 commuters. There is a serious amount of money to be gained in this manner, and it is being collected! Having said that, can anyone recall seeing a proper Police motorway patrol car operating recently? All done remotely by cameras nowadays.

Peter,

I dont agree with your interpretation which if followed by others is likely to get people into a lot of trouble!

It is true that certain acts and sections do not in themslves  have any powers of arrest or have any duly upon you to assist in your prosecution etc. But the law overall does require you to supply your name and address to an officer sufficient for you to be identified etc etc Just as JillwithaJ said.

My experience from both sides suggests that co-operation with a Police officer engaged in his duty to enforce the law is more likely to encourage him to use his discretion.  It may come as a surprise  to many but a properly appointed regular Police Officer (As apposed to a PCSO etc or local authority enforcement officer) does have discretion built into his powers.

The Old style Traffc Wardens with Yellow bands also had discretion built into their powers.  They could give official warnings just like a Police Officer.  No other officials like Local authority parking wardens can, they just issue tickets!

My husband owns a Motor Factors and the rules relating to producing number plates are very rigid. He has had to register and is audited regularly and will have a hefty fine if his records are not up to date:- www.gov.uk/register-as-number-plate-supplier

I would say the maker of your number plate is at fault!

which is made a mockery of when you can readily buy 'show plates' on the interweb.
