It is vapour. From what I've read-water & vegetable glycerine with the addition of-cherry/blueberry etc choices for the individual. The NHS has approved them for 'smoking cessation' clinics. I have family members who use them, the 'smells' they give off
are the fruit of my family members choice. I have no problem with them in my home, I used to send them into the garden to smoke a cigarette. I'm happy they're off tobacco.
For the ex smokers the level of nicotine can be reduced to 0% over time, they're a valuable tool. The large clouds produced are not from the cigarette shaped ecigarettes, they're from big powerful electronic boxes that create lots of vapour. It takes all sorts

I can only give you what I know & actually see DD. There is no tobacco, there is no need to ignite with a lighter/match, there is no foul cigarette smell, there are no coughs. If you think differently so be it. For health reasons for my family I am a big supporter of them.

Until three and a half years ago, I had been a smoker from the age of about 15 - for most of that time smoking a pipe or cigars. In later life, becoming well aware of the health risks, I had tried every conceivable way to stop smoking - and failed abysmally every time. Then I discovered eCigs and haven't smoked since. Yes, I admit that I am still addicted to nicotine and am probably just as dependent on eCigs as I was tobacco - but I'm confident that I'm not damaging my health further in the way that I was. I for one, am extremely grateful that they came along.

We both gave up smoking when the boys came along nearly 40 years ago now. It wasn't easy for OH as he was on 60 a day at that time, I had only ever been a 'social' smoker (nothing social about it) Both of the boys married girls that smoke both
of the boys ended up taking up smoking, why I will never know. The eldest is in the army and is/was very fit, he has been vaping for a few years now and says he feels much fitter for it, although he says it doesn't suppress your appetite like ciggies do. The
youngest son wasn't really into ciggies like his wife is and soon stopped smoking when he noticed his fitness levels drop, he does a lot of martial arts and he was out getting of breath. He didn't turn to vaping just stopped smoking.
The thing that gets my goat is that both of the girls stopped smoking the minute they found out they were pregnant and then as soon as the babies were born the started again, and still smoke today
