Drone on and on and on!!

we have just stayed at Knaresborough caravan site and written a review.  We noticed a drone taking off from outside reception and then flew all over the site before landing back in car park.  With the increase in drone sales it maybe worth a mention that flying so close to the public is illegal and the caravan club should not encourage this in any way.

The injury to people or property? Would the caravan club pay for my damage if they allowed the person to film from above???

I fly my drone in accordance with the CAA guidelines.  I never take off or land on private property but I do occasionally overfly caravan club sites, usually at my maximum allowable height

Taking the previous comments I do not believe for one moment that people are being buzzed or privacy invaded. If so then let's ban dogs that bark and pee everywhere, lawn mowers that make an awful noise for hours on end, hedge trimmers, people in caravans near you that can see everything you do, Google earth, the internet, children who laugh, balls that make dents in your caravan, next doors dog kennel who hit my caravan when it got swept up by the wind and left a dent in my caravan,  bbq's that burn fossil fuel and stink of meat being cooked, I could go on and on... So let's ban the lot, and just be bloody sensible about this.

I've just taken a great photo of York Caravan Club site from 120metres up with York Minster Cathedral and the city in the background.  No snooping, no buzzing, and it only took 10 minutes there and back. WOW!

I have a hatred of drones.  I know they have their uses e.g. licensed photography, search and rescue etc.

i contacted the club a couple of years ago and was told that they are banned on club sites except for specific purposes agreed by Head Office e.g. photography.

Under that rule that says about not causing disturbance to other members etc.  So not mentioned specifically but it is covered in that category.

Can never find the rules on the Club website, which seems odd.  However they are in the handbook which is in the caravan at storage so can’t find the rule number at the mo!

Like all this sort of thing it is not the registered or responsible that will be the problem.  So a registered drone user flies said drone, an irresponsible drone owner uses their drone in an irresponsible way.  Are site users expected to enquire from wardens who is registered, who is not.  It's a bit like e-scooters - not allowed on public roads (unless trial) but they are every where.  It would be another job for the wardens??

I dont know what the answer is - I can see how useful they are and have seen some splendid photography from them.  I dont really have an issue with them per se, just irresponsible use by those who dont register, dont follow the rules.

Further to my post just above, I found the rules and it is covered by Site Rule 3a.

So if you see anyone using a drone on a site, and it doesn’t appear to be authorised by the club for photography (the site manager would know), it is not allowed.

 Evening

So, laws, licensing and all that aside, drones are not allowed to be used on or more importantly above club sites. It might be lovely to have a nice video from above for the places you've stayed etc but the biggest complaint on our sites is the nuisance factor. Comparing drones with noisy mowers, dogs barking, children having fun etc etc is just laughable and in my opinion incomparable.

the drone on the beach I was on earlier this week was a buzzing nuisance .... it might not have actually been flying that long, but it seemed a lot longer.

Like those early arrivals, they just do as they please, don’t bother seeking permission, break the rules and cause issues for many of the rest of us by their actions. I’m afraid such poor behaviour is even witnessed and condoned by those that really should know better. They just don’t care.

What is defined as private property I wonder? Is it any property not owned by the individual? Just asking as the only place one may be able to fly is in one’s own back yard! Not sure but worth asking these questions as it does seem an interesting hobby. Is it only aerial photography or videoing that’s the issue or just flying? Are the issues really just about being polite and respectful to others and asking for permission?
