Desecration of our war graves!

I was really upset to read yesterday in the Times, that it has just been discovered that a number of our sunken warships in the South Java sea have been totaly destroyed by illegal scrap metal "pirates".  The Exeter for example, - Hero of the Battle of the River Plate, but later sunk by the Japanese, has all but gone in a short period and several other ships plundered in the same fashion. A submarine has been completely dismantled.

All of those ships bore the last remains of many British sailors!

In the case of the Plymouth theft it was the scrapyard owner who notified the Police once it was realised what the bundle of cut bronze contained. Only the backs and edges were previously visible due to the way the metal was folded in on itself.

It happened at the War Memorial on Plymouth Hoe a few years ago as well. Several of the bronze plaques were stolen and found cut up in a scrap yard. Foreign nationals were charged as far as I can remember.

Why do feel it necassary to mention that the theives were foreign nationals?

My apology, I muddled it up with another incident which involved foreign nationals. The theft of the plaques was laid at the door of a male sex attacker and a second male who was also charged with assaults. Is it OK to say they're male?
