Any dash cam experts out there? I have a Nextbase 512gw which switches itself off when my car (16 reg Mondeo Estate) activates the stop/start. The camera isn't hard wired, its constantly left plugged into the 12v socket. Anybody got any ideas how I can overcome this annoying glitch. Would hard wiring it help? Thanks fo any ideas.

Find a 12v lead which remains live when ignition is off and hard wire or turn off the stop start function. Our motorhome has two "cigarette' sockets, one remains live whilst the other doesn't.

Thanks mickysf, I think I'll try switching off the stop/start to begin with. Then probably get it hard wired. Thanks for your input.

Your problem seems a bit odd, Settermum. I have a Nextbase dash cam and this has an inbuilt battery that gives about 15 minutes of power if the lead is unplugged. I also have a Mondeo (2015) and the 12v socket remains live for about 20 minutes after the engine is stopped. With two power sources effectively live if the engine stops for whatever reason, the dash-cam should continue to work.

Thanks Oneputt and JohnM20. After reading your comments I have removed the camera and put it on charge to see if the internal battery has become flat for some reason. Then I'll observe how it behaves in use tomorrow. Thanks guys.

Ok, so having been on charge via the USB and my laptop, the camera's internal battery will not charge up. I'll have to contact Nextbase and have it replaced. Thanks for the suggestions, they have helped me to isolate the problem. Ta muchly.

Unless the camera is hard wired and set to motion detection it will power down approx. 30 seconds after the power from the socket is removed however this does not explain why the power at your socket is interrupted when stop start is activated.

Thanks Vulcan, you're right. I've been in the passenger seat over the weekend, so able to observe the camera a bit more closely. Aside from the fact that the internal battery will not charge up I have noticed that the red light on the 12v plug is on regardless of the stop/start. So there is power to the camera continuously. The camera remains on when the car engine stops, whether that be stopped and parked or as the stop/start. The camera cuts out and retarts only momentarily when the engine starts again. So I'm  confused as to why that would happen. I'm consumed by the need to get to the bottom of this and my husband is simply not bothered. Grrrrr!

I don't know how old your dash cam is but I believe there was a problem with the battery with that particular model - to the extent that since it was advertised as a "Which" Best Buy, Nextbase extended the warranty to 18 months for Which members who had bought them. Unfortunately, I had just cancelled my Which membership when I discovered a problem with mine just at the 18 month point!  It sounds to me that the internal battery is cream-crackered in yours.

I bought the 312G as a replacement and that's been fine for the last couple of years - and the stop-start doesn't affect it.
