Any dash cam experts out there? I have a Nextbase 512gw which switches itself off when my car (16 reg Mondeo Estate) activates the stop/start. The camera isn't hard wired, its constantly left plugged into the 12v socket. Anybody got any ideas how I can overcome this annoying glitch. Would hard wiring it help? Thanks fo any ideas.

Thanks for your response R&R, the camera is 10 months old. I have been in touch with the online seller and have agreed a return and refund. Good job I'm anal enough to keep all packaging. I have a whole bunch of old mobile phones in their original boxes too.🙄 OCD or what. hahaha.🤣 Now to decide which camera to buy to replace this one. 🤔

Not just you - I have 8 various Apple product boxes in my study at the moment - including the one my 27" iMac came in.  They're just such a work of art and manufacturing in their own right that I can't bear just to chuck 'em away!

We both have Nextbase Dash Cams, wired into the car. Hard wiring instructions are clear that the power must be drawn from a socket which is dead when the ignition is off. That’s not the same as the engine pausing when stop/start cuts in.

When the ignition is switched off, the camera waits for a short period before switching itself off - Except, it’s not entirely dormant because it will spring into life, powered by its internal battery, if the car is bumped while parked.

It sounds as if your internal battery isn’t able to sustain the camera without the assistance of a running engine with the alternator raising the voltage.

There’s a good selection of replacement LiIon batteries on eBay, presumably because other people’s batteries have failed too. As was said earlier, battery failure is a known Nextbase weakness.

Thanks Jenny, I have returned the Nextbase dash cam and had a full refund. I have just fitted my replacement camera, a Denicer D720d, I'm also £100 into pocket, happy days.

With a friend this week who bought a twin outlet plug in 12v lead. He said it was for his new dash cam which had cost him £100.

The question I asked him was why?

Not in a why would you want that way but in a what am I missing way-so what is it??

I fitted one exactly like that in the back of the MH so that OH can watch BBC Breakfast in bed with her morning coffee.

Something like this. A two into one 12v adapter. This one has USB as well.

Hi TW, sorry I should have been clearer. What I asked him was why he felt the need to spend £100 on a dash cam!

He bought his adapter in a Trago so probably not as much as £10!

It certainly was obscure.

Why £100 for a dashcam? Why not, it’s personal choice. I spent more than that as you tend to get what you pay for and quality lenses cost money - think cameras - but even at £100 it might not have a Wi-fi connection or an anti glare polarised lens for example.

Get the picture? (Pun intended.) 🙂
