It's good to hear that members of CT are receiving their vaccinations, good luck to all those yet to have theirs. It seems like a long haul till we get everyone sorted and hear the results of the present vaccines.

I'm leaving this open for non political comments as per the guidelines. Hope you can add your own experiences and thoughts.

My first jab comes up tomorrow, I'm so glad we have research institutions that have got us this far! And I am planning breaks away in the hope of improvements on the horizon.

From what I have read in this mornings paper, the main issue seems to be around if the AZ will be withdrawn from use in younger adults. If this happens the Moderna won’t provide enough doses to compensate, slowing down the rollout. It should not have any effect on second jabs for those who have already had the first dose.

Still waiting to hear about our boosters, I'm glad to read the AZ is being investigated, however the effects of Covid are deadly and very serious for some so I hope it doesn't affect the uptake of any vaccines. The Brazil situation is really awful and we can see what happens when there's no concerted effort to control the outbreak.

Checked our local figures today, and the case rate has plummeted, so thankfully things do seem to be a lot better than I thought. I wonder if it might have been a delay in updating figures, as they didn’t move for days on end. Stirlingshire appears to be having a moment though, very high rate reported there for some reason.

No dates yet for our second jabs, we are all expecting PfizerB, OH is due before end of April, Sis and me a bit later.

Not even mildly?

Had to chuckle at this one sent by BInL from France.

edit

well that doesn’t make sense anymore, content was removed while I was posting, however the photo is still amusing so I will leave it.

Today I noticed that both the GP led vaccine gateway and one of the other vaccine hubs in my area are shut.  Presumably this is because of a shortage of vaccines.  My own hub is also paused.  All a bit worrying for those getting close to second jab time.  I'm concerned and I suspect we are heading for a delay longer than we are currently being told about.

That may be a local issue - not sure which area you're in?

But driving past our local hub today it was just like the start of the first jabs - a long, long queue of elderly looking folk standing out in very cold conditions. Mrs M's friend is a receptionist at one of the local surgeries. She did say last week that they've paused vaccinations for 2 Saturdays simply to give some well deserved respite to the doctors who have been working very long shifts to get the job done.

Our second AZ jabs are on the 28th, booked at the same time as our first. Not heard anything to the contrary yet.

With regards to the concerns about the O/AZ vaccine and concerns about blood clots. They don't seem to be backing up the claims with much information at the moment although I did find this interesting article in the FT  According to the figures in Germany of the 31 cases, 29 were women. Perhaps the issues have shown up in other countries as they don't seem to be vaccinating in age order downwards? Be interesting to see the age profile for the UK as most of the younger participants are health and care workers and those at risk from other health problems?

We were given both dates at the same time so if there is any delay they are going to have to do a lot of contacting folk for rescheduling.

Posted on 07/04/2021 10:41

Same with us and all who used the swift queue system. It would be a logistical nightmare.

Hi DK, There is an article in today's Mail online by Prof David Wewrring re the blood clots.

He says that, in the UK, the deaths are almost all young females but, its the stats that jump out.

Of those who develop serious Covid 1 in 25 develop blood clots.

Of the 30 million vaccinated the deaths, 30, following issues with clots is 1 in 600000.

He says it is understandable that there is concern however, at the moment its felt there may be an association and that is not the same as a 'causal link'.
