I'm wondering about supermarkets now and whether things are under good infection control, are they operating queuing systems and reduced entrance numbers as they did previously?

Some smaller shops still do but not the larger supermarkets.

I can't speak for other areas but I use Asda and Lidl mainly and since the panic buying at the start of the first lockdown the has not been a real need although distancing is still in place as well as sanitisers etc. I did notice that just prior to Christmas the chap in Asda foyer had a colleague and both were using a counter to monitor entry and exit. There was a member of staff monitoring at Lidl also. I usually pick my time though so not shopping at peak

I hope something is put into place, just heard of local problems with certain individuals wandering round in groups. Our community shop strictly controls the numbers entering, no problems, but general management in larger supermarkets appears to be less stringent.

Christmas was never a price worth paying. Appalling actions and words issued by the government which many thought reckless. To paraphrase. "You can 'safely' meet up with two other households. But please don't"

An upsurge in infection - now there's a surprise

I know that I run the risk of being accused of "complaining" (not by you wink) but yes, I agree.

And still the ill thought out words and plans are continuing - now children who do not have access to a laptop/Internet at home are being classed as "vulnerable" and may attend school (and justifiably so in genuine cases). An ex colleague of mind told me last night that they had had almost 100 extra children turning up, unannounced, at school yesterday, claiming this! He says they know full well that most of them do have the necessary equipment at home but there is nothing they can do about it! frown

I know that the death toll in this country is appalling, but I see that Germany has had over 1000 deaths each day for the last 3 days. We have heard very little of what is happening "over there"  recently but things are obviously not much better and they have been much slower than us in getting their vaccination programmes up and running.

Britain on Friday reported a record 1,325 deaths over a 24 period from people testing positive for coronavirus, as a surge in cases piled pressure on overstretched health services, forcing London to declare a major incident.

Still a lot of couples shopping, are they hand tied or something. Nearly all I have seen is one boringly pushing the trolley whilst the other fills it, unless for good reason why is there a need for two? One can still boringly push the trolley and fill it.

Our local Sainsburys has someone on the door monitoring the numbers in store - not sure if the actual numbers are the same as earlier but there certainly never seem to be the same sort of queues as back in the original lockdown. We haven’t shopped together since the first lockdown was brought in but whenever either of us have been it seems there are plenty who are still shopping as couples/families. undecided

OH visited a local DIY store this with a traffic light system. So I wondered if other places where being more careful after adverse local reports of groups wandering round.

By the way Moulesy I agree with you about the schools problem, people are taking advantage.

They probably are in a lot of situations. frown
