Headline in one newspaper this morning states

"Virus will overwhelm hospitals in 2 weeks"

I seem to recall a Mr Whitty predicting this way back in September if we were not all good boys and girls over the winter/Christmas and people called him the prophet of doom. I guess what goes around comes around undecided

That man talks a great deal of sense. He’s not afraid to answer difficult questions either. I see he got criticism for suggesting there could be a form of lockdown next winter too.
Had to smile at the Press Conference before Christmas when a smart ***** reporter was asking how the panel were spending their Christmas Day and he replied that he was spending his on the wards helping out.

Im a great admirer of him, and of Jonathan Van Tam, another straight talker.

I remember him saying that as well Rufs and yet many still had their families round for Christmas dinner. I just don't understand people.

Waiting time at hospitals and for call outs have gone beyond any max times, because that many are unable to access ICUs at Hospitals in this area ,we are now  as yesterday over 1130 positive in just our borough of Herts far above the first wave

Agree 100% with that. I have the greatest of admiration for the way the health experts (Whitty,  JVT, Powis amongst others)  have calmly and positively replied to questioning at the news conferences - it does give you faith in the belief that,  behind all the political posturing there are those attempting to get ahead of the situation.

Because people will do what the rules allow at one particular time and (perhaps in some cases) added to their belief it will never happen to them.

The PM, First Ministers, etc were all afraid to cancel Christmas. Could have been handled far better. I will leave it there.

I suppose you're right Cs. The medical advice is not to smoke or drink to excess because of the damage it can do, but the number of people that still do, just because you are allowed to, is amazing.

Yes, I've said that even if we were magically in tier 1 tomorrow, I would still be following tier 5 rules while there is someone out there that might infect me.

The Christmas day approach was a political decision rather than a scientific one no doubt.
