Apparently a recent study claims smoking increases your risk of developing Covid-19 symptoms and ending up in hospital which contradicts previous research. If this is the case this is yet another good reason to pack it in, but I can guarantee many won't heed the advice. I'm not sure what effect excess drinking of alcohol has on Covid and I am sure that is a far more serious question some people have who post on here.

Intuitively it would make sense that COVID is not helped by smoking as the main damage it does is to the lungs, in both cases. I suppose the good news is that only about 14% of the population now smoke. Probably the reason we notice people smoking is that there are far fewer of them now. Heavy use of alcohol impacts of the vital organs and with severe COVID organ failure is a main issue so I suppose the healthier they are to start with the better?

I know that the death toll in this country is appalling, but I see that Germany has had over 1000 deaths each day for the last 3 days. We have heard very little of what is happening "over there" recently but things are obviously not much better and they have been much slower than us in getting their vaccination programmes up and running.

Christmas was never a price worth paying. Appalling actions and words issued by the government which many thought reckless. To paraphrase. "You can 'safely' meet up with two other households. But please don't"
