I remember making ice slides in the playground at school

Making sledges out of wood .

I remember when the local council used to grit the roads. They were very icy this morning and not a speck of grit to be seen.

Of course they existed, but they were called "mongrels"1

I  remember  them  as  Dogs,  no  specifying  breed  or  type  just  their  tendency  to  bite  or  otherwise  !!
