When is a rule not a rule?

Just got back from Cromer Seacroft site where there are two notices at the entry stating “Sorry no arrivals before 1.00pm”. However on at least two occasions we witnessed people, not only arriving before 1.00pm but being booked in and allowed on site, why do I bother timing my journeys and / or stopping in lay-bys to ensure I arrive after the advertised time when the rule is so blatantly ignored by others (including the wardens who allow it to happen)? 🤬

Re a post up thread re departure time, saying it used to be 11:00.

Not in the recent past, unless I’ve been going to different sites from him/her, (sorry I can’t remember who mentioned it, more than once).

Edit - it was NutsyH.

Yes, wasn’t it 12:00 for departures and arrivals?

If so, it didn’t make sense to have the same time for both.

Yes I was referring to the wardens as the tail of the dog, my point being, if the reason the arrival time has been put back to 1 pm is only for the wardens convenience, that is just wrong. They are employed by the club and it is not for them to dictate policy. I do not in anyway decry the job they do but they are employees and the club should be doing what’s right and reasonable for the customer…. us members.

I don't think the wardens could dictate anything, I wish they could, but any reasonable employer will listen to its workforce and if possible and there is any advantage however small than why not listen and put into the place what they ask for? I certainly did that even if the benefits were marginal at best  After all it's the people at the face of doing the job that have the best knowledge about doing the job not someone in a office far away from sites (not saying they are not important too) that have no idea what it's like to clean toilets or keep a site to the standard expected of the members and the other hundred jobs a team of wardens do every day. If this one hour makes their working life, and remember they are on site 24 hour a day, a bit easier then why not?

Who is to judge what is reasonable and right for the customer, you? So far it only appears to be you who has any real issue with it.

The matter is settled so you can either live with it or use another provider, does one hour really make that much difference to you?

Brue

It does seem an odd way of deciding policy. Of course problems experienced by site staff should not be ignored but one would have thought that as a service driven organisation the Club have a duty to explain why there has been a change of policy. We all know that on some sites there is a real problem of congestion if there is not a gap between departures and arrivals. However this is not the case on the majority of sites. At the very least I would expect the Club to inform its members for the reason for the change, is that really too much to ask?

DK, I've seen my profile name is getting mixed with Blue...no matter and yes CAMC could be more forthcoming with explanations as they have a paid up membership represented by committees drawn from the same. smile

On a personal level it doesn't matter too much, I don't spend time observing arrivals and I've always thought that site managers have some discretion. However CAMC could reduce angst over this by insisting early arrivals have to wait till 1pm as the C&CC do.

But you don't pay a subscription to shop at Tesco ....

I do actually, it gets me the perk of cheaper internet deliveries. Just like the CC one gets me cheaper site nights.😀

Does being a CC member get you cheaper site nights or is it more expensive per night for a none member? 🙄

Both are true, as is the case with my Tesco subscription. It’s why I joined, be silly not to if you are going to benefit.

A non member booking in at a site I arrived at was informed that after four nights that additional charge would just about cover membership. The warden then proceeded to join them on the spot. No brainer really if wishing to stay on a site or other sites for more than four nights per year.
