Saving a pitch as you are booking in

following on from the early arrival story, which I completely agree with if it says 1pm then it should be 1pm. To add to thus we arrived at the required time at Castleton to find 2 units already their booking in, when we finally were let in there was a caravan outfit behind us didn’t take a great deal of notice until we arrived at the service pitches of which there are 8 ish in on separate area and found a women stood on a pitch saving it for the outfit behind us. Total cheek and disrespect for not only the rules but also fellow members

Thought not, just a bit of stirring the pot.

Not really, I am prepared to give a reason why I consider it acceptable, rather than just saying it’s wrong. We are not gaining an advantage. If OH walks round while I am filling, she is in the position we would be in if driving. Indeed as she can be passed by those checking in behind, she could be at a slight disadvantage.

Whilst I agree it is rude and shouldn’t happen, at Castleton at least I wouldn’t be bothered which service pitch I got. They are in a separate area and personally I don’t see anything that would make me want a specific one.

Hi you are nearly right they are much the same except the end ones near the car park fortunately there were other pitches than these available it was just the cheek of it that annoyed me.

Out of interest, Steve, at what point do you tell the warden that you're having pitch number x? Before your OH stands on it or after youve finished at the MHSP? If the former, then that's fine and the pitch is officially yours but if it's after you've pitched, you have no more claim to it prior to that point than anyone else looking for a pitch. That's the way I see it. 🤷‍♂️

We inform the warden after we have selected the pitch, as is standard procedure. As far as I know you can’t inform the warden what pitch you are going to before you get there.

Sometimes, arriving at a site we know I've asked if X pitch is available and will choose it on the basis that it will be ok and there are no others in front looking at pitches. We've also done what Steve does and put our motorhome sign on a pitch whilst filling up (not often but we've done it.) There are so many permutations. If someone wants to save a pitch by standing on it, same as some do in car parking spaces it's not a big deal, these things happen. I think there is a Darwin explanation somewhere...wink

Oh but you are gaining an advantage.  Any who's looking for a pitch whilst you fill up is denied the opportunity of choosing the pitch being reserved by your partner.  IMO what you are doing is the same as anyone from a queuing van nipping on to the site and grabbing a pitch before it's their turn to to book in.

I disagree DD, I often do the same as SL, pick the pitch dump the tow car on the pitch, leave a sign and then go for water. It is not very often I don't have the car but when I don't, the sign is just left when I go for water..

We never ever arrive on site much before 15:00  so no rushing about for us but a couple of occasions  when we have been booking in we have been informed there were 2 or 3 serviced pitches available so to save our and the wardens time we have selected a pitch and been handed the gate pass etc
