Saving a pitch as you are booking in

following on from the early arrival story, which I completely agree with if it says 1pm then it should be 1pm. To add to thus we arrived at the required time at Castleton to find 2 units already their booking in, when we finally were let in there was a caravan outfit behind us didn’t take a great deal of notice until we arrived at the service pitches of which there are 8 ish in on separate area and found a women stood on a pitch saving it for the outfit behind us. Total cheek and disrespect for not only the rules but also fellow members

Now here’s a scenario for consideration. Car turns up to book in, tells staff that partner is following in camper van. Can they put the car on their favourite pitch and claim occupancy rights? Does distance/time behind determine the outcome. This I did witness. It transpired the van wouldn’t arrive until after driver finished work.
I know this ‘cos I was in reception booking in at the time. The car and driver was directed to the car park to await the arrival of van. Was that fair?

if time/distance behind is important, how long, how far?

Obviously I’m of a different era to some. What has happened to the etiquette, the friendly fellow member attitude, the we are all in this together of yesteryear. That first come to pitch practice I’ve enjoyed and understood in years gone by. All gone?

Chair, table, car person. All strategies to beat others to a vacant pitch unoccupied by either caravan or motorhome.

Please someone tell me what is the correct procedure today, not a free for all?

I’m afraid those rose tinted glasses of yours need a new prescription Micky boy-it’s older folk that I’ve seen creating the issues. Selfishness is ageless🤷🏻‍♂️. ‘First come first served’ is the mantra & I’m thinking it’s first to drive up gets the spot not first to appear with various pieces of furniture gets all the pitches they can put said furniture on.

+1 surely it’s the same action-pre taking a pitch before actually being there. I’m never that desperate to be pitch specific. A pitch is a parking spot I use to sleep on, the aspect means nothing🤔

OK so it more sensible for me to drive round, park on it, unload a sign and EHU cable and then drive round again to fill with water. Rather than OH walking from the service point round the site and selecting a pitch. (See problem above)  So be it we will just continue being wrong.

You are so right in all respects, Rocky, it is the older should know better, privileged by what they consider years that probable create these issues. I’ll change those lenses. Although from what I see several new to the staycation don’t understand the ways. Some are clueless in many respects of caravaning.

As you hold that opinion, perhaps you would like to explain why parking up, once you have checked in an paid, and walking the site  to select a pitch is so wrong.

Believe me Rocky, not often but my kids and grandkids are sometimes wrong. Just need a bit of helpful advice to the the error of their ways, and thank me later! 😉History doesn’t have to repeat itself and all that, sometimes we can learn from it and those who lived through it!👍

When I was an apprentice I learn so much from my mentor, more than just a trade, much for life.
