Pricing in the directory and online

the club need to check the pricing. On searching Treamble Valley the from price was totally different to the cheapest cost which was in October for one person and pitch.

This is the second questionable action by the club in two years, the renaming without widespread consultation of the membership being the previous one.

What the hell is going on??"

The Club is slowly dragging itself out of the dark age. It will get there one day with deposits, minimum stays at hot spot sites and even electricity meters but probably not in my lifetime.

The absence of readily available prices is, IMHO, merely a ruse to disguise the inexorable increases in the cost of staying on a club site. I sampled a couple with which I am familiar to find that, for the archetypal unit plus two adults, they vary between around £26 low season to well over £30 in high season. I didn't dare look at the "honeypots".

All I can say is, thank goodness for the CL network as I would think it unlikely that I shall ever visit a club site again unless it was a 'no facs' one.

I would be interested to know what you consider low season / what sites you are looking at, as even Chatsworth (a honey pot) is only £22.30 from January to mid March.

I am less concerned about the variation between book and web prices than I am about the price online at the time of booking which is a binding price.

For example we want to go to see the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch railway again, perhaps early April 2019.. I've looked at a Caravan Club site near to Hythe and it is just over £26 per night and I've looked at a Camping Club site at Folkstone which is just a little over £18 per night with the age discount. If we stay for 5 nights that's a £40 difference between the 2 sites...

Yes the dreaded Easter peak is of a ridiculous duration. From over two weeks before until the day after Easter Monday. During which period many sites will be relatively empty, apart from the Easter Weekend.

I wonder if the club think that their members are in some way loyal and only ever look at or use club sites. Not in our case, we always shop around for a suitable sites at a better price in the same area.... Less than £20, is good, less than £25 is just OK, above £25 is look for somewhere else. Ah yes some will say, but you know what you are getting with caravan club sites... yes I do, I'm getting overcharged. wink

I wonder if, with the rolling year round booking, the Club are able to get a better idea of when sites are popular and adjust prices accordingly? What sometimes happens at Easter is that schools will have different holiday times around the main dates which tend to extend the peak period to cover all those dates?

In common with other members we find it frustrating when trying to book 21 nights because just two nights Friday & Saturday have been taken. Someone booking a weekend has a priority from people who want to book 3 weeks because there are no spaces over the weekends. Giving a discount on mid week when the whole week is needed does not sort the problem. What happens is that members book up months and weeks before and there are no spaces left to take reasonable holidays. Then just before a weekend, pitches become available, but its to late to take a meaningful break. Hope this explains our experience this year and we feel a change would benefit all members. We are 25year plus members and found it hard this year to get pitches at our club sites.

In peak periods there are numerous reasons that pitches seem to become available at short notice not just cancellations,ie damaged pitches/ previos power faults etc

If posts are locked because of a similar running topic then why not copy/transfer across the posts from the locked thread to the open thread or at least leave it for others to see. Most annoying for those who have taken the time to compile replies.

The post is still visible here, it has only been locked. https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-together/discussions/welcome-hobby-talk/how-to-use-club-together/201920-sites-directory-and-handbook/

It is not possible to transfer posts from one thread to another that is why a link was provided. As a rule of thumb, if we get two threads on the same subject we tend to lock the one with less replies. I accept it is not a perfect solution but we have to work within the limitations of the forum. It is also not possible to copy the the posts across either as they would not be attributed to the original poster and none of us have time to do it manually.

David

Sorry for thinking the post had been Deleted User I had looked in the wron g section.

Thanks for the explanation. It does seem to be a point the could be addressed by the club. It is annoying to think you have posted a worthy reply only for the post to be stopped.

This topic has been locked, no new replies can be added.
