Pitching Instructions

Has the club abandoned pitching guidelines? I've always been told quite firmly to reverse the van onto a pitch with the nearside corner next to the peg.

I'm currently at Malvern Hills and people are going freestyle with people seemingly pitching in any direction they want.  I wish I'd been told this when I arrived as I would have ignored what I thought was a rule in favour of a better view.

I don’t recall ever being advised how to pitch over there. If it’s a contained hedged pitch it’s best to do as here,  car - RV - awning as some like to park their RV hard against the hedge. Aires often have very defined pitches with lines or bits of board.

Plenty of room on this hedged pitch...park where you like..smile

The pitching rules are what they are on club sites, they are well known, maybe apart from the OP, there is a safety reason for the peg system but which you can agree with or not but if you want to use a club site then that is the way you have to pitch. If it's not to your liking then leave it to those who either do or really do not see it as as a big deal.

.....and club site pitching has nothing at all to do with how they pitch elsewhere.

Thanks for sharing, as you've said in the past, both club sites are only full as we don't know there is better out there.

I would think that to be the case, as I can’t see a warden generally advising to ignore the peg. Due to maintaining spacing, the last pitch we were on at Cirencester had a fairly tight space to the left of the peg, only just sufficient for a car. We went nose in peg to the nearside and had room for a mega awning. On extending our wind out, it didn’t come within a metre of the pitch edge. This is unfortunate for those with caravans, as it can make it very awkward fitting barrels and car in. However, if the RV was placed in the middle of the pitch, it would have been a metre or more off the peg and fire spacing would be compromised.

Just been on a site where, if I had put the corner of the caravan onto the peg....our car may just have fitted on the remaining space...most probably a wheel encroaching onto the adjacent grassed area...turned out the previous occupant had moved the peg to accommodate a large wind out awning from his large MH...(Comment from neighbouring pitch occupant when he noticed me moving the peg back to its original 'hole'..)

Aside, I have noticed that some sites have a dedicated dye coloured 'peg hole' to stop this happening..

So you're dragging the thread several hundred miles away from the topic raised by the OP? I see.

(Actually, you've posted that pic so many times it feels as familiar as my back garden.)

Now, shall we return to the topic of club sites?

It's a club site then? Looks good, again a name would be useful for others to benefit from it?

They need them. One poster here frequently boasts of moving the peg. I think he forgets the fundamental reason for it.

I think Another David and I have used the same site in Belgium that had very strict pitching guide which came as a bit of a surprise as you suggest it is uncommon to be told to pitch a certain way. When we caravanned there were a couple of sites in Germany where the site placed the caravan on pitch so one assumes that was some sort of "pitch control"? Now whilst we might all enjoy the freedom to pitch how we want in Europe I can't help thinking that not much thought or regulation goes into how pitches are used abroad. Because of the popularity of pitching across the pitch it often means there is often no more than a metre between the sides of caravans!
