The Club have released more details of the new Booking System here

There are still finer details still to be arrived but the link (thanks Harry) sets out how the new system will work.

I have closed the previous thread on when we will get details of the new booking system and opened this one to allow comments specifically on the new system rather than discussing what they might be.

We certainly didn't like it, wasn't helped by the grumpy wardens at the time.

Michael, sorry to add to others' dislike of Cherry Hinton, but we stayed at the C&CC site (newly refurbished pitches..) and found it very nice and convenient.

we called in at CH when out on bikes one day just to see...the darkest, dankest site we've ever been to...dim, grim and damp...sorry.

We have stayed at both the C&CC and the CMC sites in Cambridge. Accepted the C&CC site is more open but where the CMC site wins is ease of access to Cambridge by public transport. Also a handy pub near by! When we visit places like Cambridge or Oxford or other large cities we want the maximum convenience of getting into the centre. Horses for courses I think. Wardens, sorry site managers, change all the time. On our last visit to CH they helped us change to a different type of pitch from the one booked with no difficulties what so ever.

Cherry Hinton site is in an old quarry and is very much restricted as to what can be done as it is also a protected wild flower and wildlife haven

When we visit we tend to try and get a pitch either in the hollow in front of the toilets or at the top of the site, rather than to the left in the dark part

But as posted the up side is the great bus service into the city and the food in the near pub

I’m a little puzzled by your comments David. I had been looking at the C&CC site with a view to visiting, as we are now members. The bus stops, according to Google,  seems a similar distance away 0.3 miles. However, admittedly the buses are only every 20 minutes rather than 10. When we arrived some years ago it was fairly full and we had the choice of a tarmac pitch, or a supposed gravel awning pitch that barely had room for our wind out.

There is also the price difference. Towards the end of April when the CAMC are still charging full whack 3 nights cost £107.70, as against the C&CC at £65.25. Even if we were younger it would only be £81.15. Both are for awning pitches and in the case of the C&CC a hardstanding pitch.

We used Cherry Hinton once, a very long time back, last time in Cambridge we used the CCC site, much nicer.  The newer hardstandings are a very good size.

For Cambridge, after just one visit to Cherry Hinton quarry we went several times to  Highfield  Farm touring park at Comberton on the western edge of the city - and found Beverley and her family unfailingly helpful about pitch selection. Their site is spacious and impeccable but the downside is that it is not open all year.

Here’s a photo of Highfield Farm touring park - with a car we drove to a park and ride but perhaps Motorhome don’t want to do that.

Steve

We tend to alternate between the two. There is a very good Garden Centre within walking distance of the C&CC site which we like to visit. Access is also better to the C&CC site. Having said that we also like the CMC site because of the better transport links and and also there is more nearby in the way of shops and eating places. Last time we used the C&CC site I think it was peak time and it coincided with the hottest day of the year, just shy of 40 degrees!!!! It might have been a bit cooler in a quarry?

I have also used both sites and much prefer the openness of the one down Cabbage Moor. I agree there is little difference in bus service, at least nothing of any consequence. I also like being near Granchester, its cafe, pubs  and the meadows for walking. While there is no pub near the C&CC site, there is the Garden Centre and the supermarket is not far away if you don't fancy the local shop by the bus stop.

Getting back to booking the grass pitches are great at the C&CC site in good weather.

PeeDee...Roger Waters also liked Grantchester Meadows (on Ummagumma).

Hear the lark and harken
To the barking of the dog fox
Gone to ground
See the splashing
Of the kingfisher flashing to the water
And a river of green is sliding
Unseen beneath the trees
Laughing as it passes
Through the endless summer
Making for the sea

In the lazy water meadow
I lay me down
All around me golden sunflakes
Settle on the ground
Basking in the sunshine
Of a by-gone afternoon
Bringing sounds of yesterday
Into this city room

Doesnt sound like Cherry Hinton to me....😉
