We were staying on the North Yorkshire site at Whitby and our neighbours were heating their  awning all day. No wonder the prices are going up on the Caravan Club sites.

And yet again it is very hot hot air from 20000or more watts as when standing in front of one it is very warm at head height that is still going up through the flimsy roofsurprised

A 20kw heater?🤣🤣

Of course it's warm, it heats the body (only) and you feel the warmth which is the whole point.

These kind of discussions always leave me a little sad.  Surely the particular caravanner paid for that pitch on the understanding that he would be provided with 16amps of power. If he uses all 16amps, well, he paid for it didn't he? If he doesn't, the club is in profit. It's for him to manage his usage and as long as he doesn't trip the board then what harm?

I enjoy being on club sites because you know they will always be maintained to a good standard, but this kind of curtain twitching I think says more about the person making the observation than the person actually being observed.

And yes, I use a heater. And no, I've never exceeded the electricity I've paid for.

I find this discussion a bit pointless because our van - and I assume there must be others with the same Truma blown air system - has the facility to divert all of the heat into the awning via a vent set in the awning side of the van.  I could have that running all day and no one would be any the wiser.

It is one of the sadder attitudes of some J🤷🏻‍♂️, it comes up often I think it comes under the ‘I don’t like it so you shouldn’t do it’ category. Some attempt to attack with the-‘save the planet’ argument then they tug a Caravan or drive a big Moho. I think the best thing to do is to just leave others to enjoy their break within the guidelines. Sad, very sad☹️

I agree that members should be free to enjoy there break within the guide lines / rules without criticism. However, it does not stop one having an opinion on a matter, and part of a forums function is to give folk the ability to express and debate those views with others. Clearly tugging a caravan isn’t that environmentally friendly and neither is driving a MH. That should not stop us from looking for savings where possible. Such as driving it in a manner that returns good fuel efficiency, or perhaps sitting in a well insulated RV, rather than trying to heat the planet.

As an analogy, you can travel up a 'down' escalator if you walk fast enough but you don't half expend a lot of energy. How many would do that?

Each to their own but it does irritate me to see a radiant heater burning in an awning when people have gone out and I have seen it and think badly. I no longer have an awning having given mine away in 2012. I did on occasion use a fan heater but only at Christmas period and whilst I sat outside with a cigar and an Asbach brandy. As I would take a pack of 5 castella I doubt it an for more than a couple of hours a year

Are you a new member?  Otherwise I would have thought you would know, that each pitch  has a separate tripsurprised

Posted on 31/08/2021 08:57

No, not a new member and i know each outlet on a bollard has its own MCB, but you said the warden tripped the bollard, not an individual outlet on the bollard.

Perhaps it would help people if you made sure your statements were accurate.

JVB we've had this discussion before 'heat' does not rise, heated air rises. However the heat from radiant halogen heaters travels in straight lines and does not heat the air while it travels, it only heats the person or anything else able to absorb the energy.

Posted on 31/08/2021 09:12

Halogen heaters give off both radiated, and convection heat, and irrespective off what kind of heater it is a energy a  2 KW halogen heater uses as much energy as any other 2KW  heater

I’m with you 100% SL everyone is entitled to an opinion👍🏻. Unfortunately some folk don’t like others choices & tend to berate in a most hypocritical way that can’t be good surely. You must have noticed how some(particularly new posters) are oftentimes jumped on because of their views🤷🏻‍♂️. It can be way more respectful to keep it friendly than to guilt trip-to save you time I have no intention of naming & shaming it would then make me a hypocrite too. Just a thought🙂
