Electricity meters

OK I know, i must be on one tonight but i feel certain comercial sites are trying to squeeze a few extra drops of blood out of us. I don't mind paying £3 for electricity but it starts to gring when sites start to charge £5 and £6 per night, as i have seen this year. It then really gets up my nose when they start to put us on a meter. I did 3 night at a site in Whitby over the winter period, i declined to pay the £5 per night fee for electricity and ran everything off my 12v leasure battery, even the T.V. and Satellite system. The only thing we could use was my wifes hair dryer. Even this had a plus point. We didn't need to fall out about the damned noise it made.

Anyway, getting back to the point in hand, has anyone any input as to how much these meters charge ?. I know it all depends on how much power you use but i am looking for some constuctive input as to if these meters are fair or not.

Winter charges V Summer charges would be interesting.

Regards

Dave

I think the administration of all these different charges would prove too much of a burden for the wardens and the costs would outweigh the benefits.

I would suggest an all inclusive fee for the use of the pitch, EHU, water, toilet / shower block and all other site services.

Its all very well not hooking up but then you have to use bottled gas for cooking and more importantly running the fridge. Bottled gas is not the cheapest form of energy and a fridge uses a lot of it. It can empty a bottle in about a week or so which could work out at more expensive than using electricity.

A 6kg bottle of propane contains 83 kWh by my calculations If it cost £20 then that's about 24p/kWh.

I paid £12.32 for 11Kgs (21.66lts) of LPG on Sunday and that was 2p a litre over the odds just for the sake of stopping at a convenient garage on the way home. Smile

12.4p/kWh, a little less than domestic electricity, perhaps the same if you include an element of the standing charge?

If thats a refillable system you have the capital cost of that to be written off over the number of refills or time until it needs replacing?
