Won't be much different to stopping on the club's Durham site, although a dark site cheaper!😁

Actually, I never responded to your post, SB, neither to agree nor disagree so you’re way off beam there.

Back to the topic. Perhaps Corners can say if, in his opinion, there is much call for such a facility in Durham. It’s not an area I’m familiar with.

If just used as a stop over going north or south it is literally two minutes (300 metres) from the A1(M) and if one didn't mind the road noise early morning and late afternoon and the whole car park 'thing' then it would be good for that.  Also a two night stop would be good for those venturing into Durham city during the day and evening using the park and ride.

When ever I've used that park and ride there has always been a few MH, perhaps five or so on a Saturday, from talking to one couple on the bus they were just going to look round Durham during the day and be on a site later on near Hexham.

I suppose the car park is empty at night so DCC will get some money out of it.

For anyone considering it, there are no buses on Sundays.

When is a shop directly across the road not a shop in your world? Have you observed the growth in convenience stores attached to petrol stations? It’s quite the rage these days.

It’s quite possible you might need to take an anti grumpy pill tonight SB. 🤷‍♀️ I haven’t got a clue why you have responded to my post. I neither know nor care if there is a shop the other side of a very busy road. I was responding to Corners, who does have a wealth of local knowledge for that area.

Thanks for the offer Corners😁 It was a bit of a noisy night that stay we did. We used Club Site on our next visit with MH, although we didn’t go into Durham. We were visiting Hexham Xmas Fair, and had a nice walk to Finchale Priory, where there is a very nice caravan site. We know Rowing Club CL as well. Tight pitches, and you don’t really want to be there on a busy event night at the Club, but it’s a nice walk up the river. When we did stop to go into Durham, we simply drove MH in and parked MH up opposite bank of River, and had a nice walk over Framwellgate Bridge, up to Castle and Cathedral.

Cheers, Corners. It sounds as if it might be of use to those who don’t mind the noise. It’s not my cup of tea though.

It can be very noisy indeed. We quite like the Durham Club Site, only stayed in Winter months when it was quite cheap. The pitches at the bottom  near the tent area are the best in terms of noise, it didn’t bother us much. If it was £5 for car park, or £15 for Club Site, I would opt for Club Site. No idea how much it is now though on Site, probably a lot more. I recall a decent Fish and Chip van calling in one evening🤔

Well Bill you posted:

a few shops just across the road if I remember correctly.

And there isn't a few. And it's not attached either it's inside and quite small. I posted to give a better impression for anyone wishing to visit, in case they took your few as meaning there would be quite a selection to buy from.

Ah, thanks, found it! Seven times as expensive a solution compared to some sites mind! That’s a whole week’s worth!😉

So much squabbling. Why? JillwithaJay posted some information about a stopover which some of us may find useful.

Having stayed quite a number of times at the Club Site at Durham, I find I prefer the CL at the Rowing Club having since used that. But, if arriving very late, en route to somewhere else, and just wanting a legal stopover, I might well pay £5 for the facility at the P&R. It could not be much more noisy than the Club site surely.

And, picking up on another point, if I stayed at the stopover, would I then go and stay at the Club Site at around £30 (?) a night just to service my motorhome? Just yards away, at £25+ a night more? Not likely.

Posted on 09/05/2022 22:28

Of course you wouldn’t pay a night's fee at both the club site and the P&R. That would be crazy so, instead, you’d obviously use one or the other.

Squabbling? No it’s debate.
