Club prices getting silly

I'm not one who normally complains about site fees. It's quite simple - you either accept them, or you don't! We are both fortunate in that we are retired with good pensions and don't have to count the 'pennies' too much.  However, I have just attempted to book two nights at Broadway as a stop-over on our way to Devon, next June. For two people on a normal hardstanding pitch on 5 June (not a peak holiday period), we are being asked to pay £39.40 and for the following night, £35.10 - that's over £74 for two nights.  Compare that with 14 nights at the C&CC site at Dartmouth - which is lovely and just as good, if not better than most CAMC sites - for £311.

I think this is ridiculous and will be looking elsewhere.

That said, I am not averse to paying premium prices if it seems justified - we will be paying something like £37pn at Sandringham, this Christmas - but I would expect that at that time of year due to increased demand - but not in what I see as a 'low/mid season' period.

I don't use Club sites very often and if this is the way things are going, together with the threat of introducing deposits I can't see me using them at all in the future.

Rant over - but I think this is a step too far.

CY says “As for pricing, my views are well known. I noticed when updating my, now received, Sites Directory that some CL's are getting silly. One NonEHU CL wanted £18 whilst one with EHU was only £13. Does anyone ever do market comparisons, whether CAMC or private CL: owners?”

We do CY, we will compare CLs in the same area, and decide which might give us the best VFM. That doesn’t mean we might choose the cheapest price, but will look at a lot of different factors important to us. We will also put other provision into the equation as well, such as small private sites, Britstops, Aires etc… It’s how we make up a tour, we might choose something very cheap or free for a one/two night stay, but then look at a very nice CL for staying a bit longer, but know it’s safe and secure to leave our pooch on site while we go for a bike ride. We did a 10 night tour last June, and stayed on a CL at £25 per night for four nights. But our other choices were so cheap, we still averaged £12.30 per night, and enjoyed every location for different reasons.

We don’t compare CLs in different areas of the country. We know some areas are very expensive, even for no hook ups. But other areas are a bit cheaper.

Not really they are often voiced on CT and on FB.

Just because something is often posted on CT and FB does not make it a fact in any way for any viewpoint. It is still just opinions.

Facts could be occupancy rates on basic sites against those with SP? I'm sure the club will look at those rather than opinions on CT and FB

Re CCC Veteran membership. It’s half price, but only for 65(?) and over who have been a member for 25 years. I think! We qualify, but you have to contact them. It’s not automatically applied."

The above post appeared on Page 18, completely out of sync with current posts. What is CAMC doing with its database?

As for pricing, my views are well known. I noticed when updating my, now received, Sites Directory that some CL's are getting silly. One NonEHU CL wanted £18 whilst one with EHU was only £13. Does anyone ever do market comparisons, whether CAMC or private CL: owners?

Why would you want anyone to do a market comparison for you, I can do that for myself and I assumed that everyone does. One looks at the price and decides to pay it or not?

Are taxes going up? Is that confirmed?

Maybe but 'lower income groups' don't usually have an outfit to tour in? And even if they do I'm sure that taxes and them is really beyond this thread.

As I said if finding somewhere 'cheaper' is all  people have to worry about then all isn't that hard for them in my view.

Taxes are not going up but as you get a pension increase if you are a tax payer you will automatically pay more tax. The amount you earn before paying tax is not going up, so hence you will pay more tax.
