Club prices getting silly

I'm not one who normally complains about site fees. It's quite simple - you either accept them, or you don't! We are both fortunate in that we are retired with good pensions and don't have to count the 'pennies' too much.  However, I have just attempted to book two nights at Broadway as a stop-over on our way to Devon, next June. For two people on a normal hardstanding pitch on 5 June (not a peak holiday period), we are being asked to pay £39.40 and for the following night, £35.10 - that's over £74 for two nights.  Compare that with 14 nights at the C&CC site at Dartmouth - which is lovely and just as good, if not better than most CAMC sites - for £311.

I think this is ridiculous and will be looking elsewhere.

That said, I am not averse to paying premium prices if it seems justified - we will be paying something like £37pn at Sandringham, this Christmas - but I would expect that at that time of year due to increased demand - but not in what I see as a 'low/mid season' period.

I don't use Club sites very often and if this is the way things are going, together with the threat of introducing deposits I can't see me using them at all in the future.

Rant over - but I think this is a step too far.

We like the non facility sites, yes they are sometimes out of the way but then again some of the sites are.

Englethwaite Hall is always busy yet locally there is nothing for the MHs but you often see quite a few on site. We use it as a night halt when travelling to and from the South, I'm sure other's do likewise.

Dockray Meadow is another non facility site, again unless you are prepared to cycle from the site there is nothing locally for the MHs, yet again we always see a good number of them on site.

Killin is another favourite of ours, less than a mile from the full CAMC site always lots of MHs on it.

More and more MH owners are getting into the way of sightseeing, as they go from one site to another, so sites out of the way does not disadvantage them.

You only have to look at the popularity of the NC500 to see that MH owners are not put off by rural sites.

The main thing that this group of members are looking for, is VFM when choosing a site. They don't sit around all day on site they are out there 'doing' what they do look for is a site that is well placed and not overly expensive, just a nice clean place to park there wheels and get a good night's sleep safely.

They don't need to spend £35+ a night and neither do we.

I agree with you about non-fac, sites, TG. They are often oases of peace, especially at peak times when they can be much quieter than full facility club sites. I like(d) them.

The assumptions throughout the rest of your post are, of course, your opinion rather than fact.

Some CLs are also getting very expensive!

OH has just booked our Easter trip, 5 sites.......one CCC site and 4 CLs.  The CCC site is £26.10, the CLs are £20, £21, £22 and £25.

2 are serviced and 2 have toilet/shower, which we possibly will not use, and all required deposits.

The £25 one came as a bit of a shock as their own website  said £18, the info on the Club site was for 2022 and said £20, but when OH rang to check availability she was told £25.   It is where we want to be, not really any alternatives nearby, so we decided to book.  At least the electricity is included.

We have seen some CLs  now charging £30 plus.

Not really they are often voiced on CT and on FB.

It is just the MO of the C&CC. They have chosen, as a point of difference, to offer a discount to their older members. It's the same as some retail stores have a blanket 20% off every now and then. It's just something they build into their financial model. Personally I wouldn't get too excited about pensioners getting a 10% increase in their pensions as its likely only to apply to the basic state pension, unlikely that occupational pensions will match that figure, unless you are very lucky? By the time you allow for increases in energy, council tax and water bills I expect there won't be much of that increase left! The CMC have clearly not gone down that route and it seems they don't offer any discounts now since the mid week discount disappeared. When that was in place you could argue that the people more likely to benefit from that was pensioners as everyone else was at work when it applied? I am of the view that you take what is on offer. If the C&CC find it too draining on finances they will end it.

I'm not aware of any retail store, pub, chip shop etc who might offer discounts to pensioners, also charging a membership fee.

I think that to charge a flat membership fee across the board, and then treat a section of the membership preferentially, is discrimination. Its not the same as getting a discount at Iceland every Tuesday.

How C&CC operate is entirely up to them, but it does affect how I view them. I'm not a member and have no intention of becoming one.

Regarding pensions, I know a lot of people who are very grateful for the increase and who are also making a couple of quid from the energy support scheme by putting on extra clothing and switching off non essential equipment

Re CCC Veteran membership. It’s half price, but only for 65(?) and over who have been a member for 25 years. I think! We qualify, but you have to contact them. It’s not automatically applied."

The above post appeared on Page 18, completely out of sync with current posts. What is CAMC doing with its database?

As for pricing, my views are well known. I noticed when updating my, now received, Sites Directory that some CL's are getting silly. One NonEHU CL wanted £18 whilst one with EHU was only £13. Does anyone ever do market comparisons, whether CAMC or private CL: owners?
