This link was posted in the General Chat section but I think it would be good repost here as a separate discussion. https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/uk-holidays/useful-information/arrival-efficiency-trial-at-clachan/

The Club are going to trial the use of ANPR from 24th August at the Clachan site in Scotland to automate arrivals with the likelihood it will be rolled out to more sites if successful. Some of you may have already used commercial sites where ANRP is employed to access a site. All the details are quite extensively covered in the link. Members will have to make sure their registration number is registered when booking and apparently payment will be taken on the morning of arrival.

TW, I know I'm a little thick (rhetorical) but what is a toad? At first it made me chuckle - the idea of a real toad?

My apology, Corners. It’s a generally accepted term amongst those MH-ers who tow cars.

Say it out loud - toad/towed πŸΈπŸ˜€

On tow it will bear the MH's reg but travelling solo it will show its own reg.

Yes certainly if it keeps smaller sites that are perhaps non viable or run by volunteers (does that still happen?) then another good reason.

Posted on 28/08/2022 18:14

Yes,  the Clachan unless changed recently is run by volunteers.

As said perfect site to trial ANPR,  Maragowan is less than a mile away but its a pain having to go there first to go through the booking in process then drive back out up the road and check in there.

When we passed recently it was quite busy and why not at half the price of Maragowan.

We like the none facility sites,  wish there were more.

What about over there visitors? does ANPR work with those?

Posted on 28/08/2022 18:16

The information about the trial covers visitors/ second cars and the associated charges. The registration of toads I presume will need the same procedure although, as now, without extra charges.

If they are trying to get the booking / entrance system to be automatic they are certainly going about it the hard way. ANPR is a brilliant concept but in this application is not the answer.  Inshallah, in two days I shall enter a CCP site simply by waiving my card bought for 5 euro and good for life, at a reader; a bit like the CC Ltd barrier cards.  The difference is my card is preloaded by me with credit.  Once on site I will have 24 hours for the site price.  If I leave within that time my credit will be reduced by that site price 24 hours after my first entry.  If I stay longer the clock starts ticking down on the next 24 hours and so on.  So so simple.

Have a look at: How it works
