CAMC pitch markers

It is reported in another forum (Autosleepers) that all Club sites will soon have two pitch markers for each pitch - and you pitch between the two.

I havent seen it anywhere on Club info or this forum.

Anyone know any more?  I know people like to get really exercised about "pitching to the peg"!

Was there not a site on the network (probably an affiliated) where staff took the caravan away from the member and sited it for them?

Bath Chew Valley AS, I believe.

Think how time consuming that would be for staff on a CAMC site.

Call it a diorama then, it sounds so grown up.🤣 If there is a need for such things then there’s a need I guess! Pitching incorrectly has always happened and you have to wonder what is the ‘best’ method of helping folk pitch correctly. I’m sure staff don’t enjoy the time consuming, wasteful and possibly confrontational activity of having to speak with and then move folk but how can it be avoided. Those that think it is a childish thing are, you would hope, not the intended audience and it should go over their heads. If it reduces issues then so be it. You just wonder though that any attempt of  â€˜instruction’ eliminates the possible defensive retort of ‘nobody told me’ and makes pitching however they wish just a tad more challenging.

I always pitch to the peg, often much to the annoyance of my wife who feels being a foot away from the peg is no big deal!!! I wouldn't say that being told how I should pitch when I check into every site is childish but I think reception staff could tackle it in a slightly different way. I would be happy to be asked if I am familiar with the correct pitching procedure when at least I have to option of saying yes or asking to be shown. Perhaps its an easier script for the staff to  follow by telling everyone. As I mentioned before, part of the problem could be that it is often the passenger that goes into reception to pay whilst the drive remains in the vehicle. How do we know the information is passed on? Perhaps rather than the model in reception each arrival should be handed a 6x4 card/paper with an illustration of the correct way to pitch which they have to return to reception with their pitch number? There could be no argument about not being made aware of the correct pitching procedure which in turn would make it easier for the warden to get someone to move if the member gets it wrong?

As far as the two peg system I will reserve judgement until I have visited a site with that in operation.

At the end of the day this is just another way of ensuring that people pitch the way the club wants to ensure any fire regulations/guidance/spacing are adhered to. Yes people can debate these and/or are they necessary but the club has decided to abide by them.

This new system might be easier to use and it may even have the advantage of being more flexible width wise on certain pitches. Also I assume they will be wider than most outfits to accommodate the legal road width, but until we see them we won't know?

For me, and perhaps many others who use sites it's really not a big thing, or 'anything' to note and certainly doesn't interfere with the my holiday or time away. That mainly taken care of outside the site.

The system was in use at Castleton, last November. We were on a service pitch and our 2.22 metre wide van had 20/30 cm space each side to the pegs, when parked in the middle.

That's quite a margin either side, so yes it could well be to our advantage. Thanks for posting.

which kinda vindicates Mrs Klyne then ..... being 300mm/1ft is presumably near enough 🙄😉

Looking at Steve's post, I just had a thought, imagine the two white pegs a distance of 2.64 (or 2.82) meters apart and two lines at 90 degrees to the bottom edge going to the front of the pitch? Now Steve's van is 2.2 m and has to fit between those lines.

So is everybody assuming an outfit will be pitched parallel to those lines?  But there's enough extra distance to allow one corner 'touching' the right hand side one and the diagonally opposite corner 'touching' the left hand side with the result being the van being slightly across the pitch.

Now I know this is just a bit of fun and one would do that (would they) but it is technically within the rules? or will extra instructions be necessary?

If I've got time I'll work out the angles assuming a 7m van.

If its technically within those 6&3m fire rules then what justification can there be not to? After all, they are the only rules which dictate pitching aren’t they?

Yes indeed, I'm just wondering if the club expects all outfits to be parallel?
