CAMC pitch markers

It is reported in another forum (Autosleepers) that all Club sites will soon have two pitch markers for each pitch - and you pitch between the two.

I havent seen it anywhere on Club info or this forum.

Anyone know any more?  I know people like to get really exercised about "pitching to the peg"!

Bad pitching has always been around, mainly because folks lack the common sense (intelligence), good manners, etc…. to see any potential problems, dangers etc…

Worse we ever had was a lovely small private site many years ago in Cornwall. We had a corner of a walled garden with van small awning up, enough room to back LR Defender in next to awning. Except new visitors pitched a large tent up far too close one day when we were out. It got sorted, diesel fumes as we fired up our Series 3 got too much for them eventually. They moved and went to bother someone else. Sorry, but they really were thick……..we had politely mentioned they might be a bit too close to us, but they were sure “it would be alright”.

Too many folks chasing too few pitches at times in UK at moment. Club are just trying to manage the tight pitching arrangements that most sites now have. My definition of a good pitch isn’t a good business model……can be found though😁

At the end of the day this is just another way of ensuring that people pitch the way the club wants to ensure any fire regulations/guidance/spacing are adhered to. Yes people can debate these and/or are they necessary but the club has decided to abide by them.

This new system might be easier to use and it may even have the advantage of being more flexible width wise on certain pitches. Also I assume they will be wider than most outfits to accommodate the legal road width, but until we see them we won't know?

For me, and perhaps many others who use sites it's really not a big thing, or 'anything' to note and certainly doesn't interfere with the my holiday or time away. That mainly taken care of outside the site.

We have just had a great weekend at Uttoxeter Club site, only on peg on the pitch and the lovely wardens gave clear instruction on how to pitch

When we rode round at least four vans (caravans and motorhomes) had pitched the wrong side of the peg making it impossible to use the next pitch

When I mentioned it to the warden when I went back to tell them our pitch number he went to investigate, we then watched as the people had to move their units to the correct side of the pitch

Not a difficult instruction to follow but did give us something to watch for the rest of the afternoon

But then you tend to go to overseas sites that are mostly in countries that have far more space than here smile for the the populations

Netherlands is  almost twice as densely populated as UK,   Belgium is higher too, but the UK population is more concentrated in the south of the country.

England is 3 times as densely populated as Wales, and over 6 times compared to Scotland, so plenty of space up here, yet most of our campsites are still cramped.

It seems quite difficult to get permission to open a campsite, neighbours just do not like them, and large landowners do not seem  keen either.

Our empty spaces are often well away from densely populated areas,  certainly too far to travel for a short break, but generally not seen as a holiday destination by many.  I am often surprised by how many members have never  visited Scotland.

We have seen that often too.  Perhaps more sites need to use the "toy caravan and car on a pitch" model!

There’s space and there’s usable space, Kj. Areas of Scotland, in particular, also Wales and England cannot possibly accommodate campsites so those that exist have to be fitted in on the suitable terrain. Perhaps that gives rise to the feeling of being cramped🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes, aware of that, but the big estates and National Trust must have plenty of land where there could be sites, but as far as I can make out, most will not even consider it.

That,  and other sparsely populated areas being remote from large centres of population, means sites are more concentrated in already crowded areas where land costs are high.

How often do we hear remarks about sites not being where MH users, in particular, want to be?   No buses....no pubs or eating places....too remote for many caravanners too.

I’m not disagreeing with you, Kj, but just pointing out a reason why sites cannot be established in huge swathes of our country.

As for sites not being where some folk want them, that’s surely down to personal choice of the prospective end user. What suits one, doesn’t suit another.

A few years every site, or the ones I visited, had the toy car and I recall posts on here complaining about being treated like children, can't win either way I suppose.

Call it a diorama then, it sounds so grown up.🤣 If there is a need for such things then there’s a need I guess! Pitching incorrectly has always happened and you have to wonder what is the ‘best’ method of helping folk pitch correctly. I’m sure staff don’t enjoy the time consuming, wasteful and possibly confrontational activity of having to speak with and then move folk but how can it be avoided. Those that think it is a childish thing are, you would hope, not the intended audience and it should go over their heads. If it reduces issues then so be it. You just wonder though that any attempt of  ‘instruction’ eliminates the possible defensive retort of ‘nobody told me’ and makes pitching however they wish just a tad more challenging.
