Bristol Site

Hi everyone,

We wanted to keep you updated of the Club’s plan for a new site in Bristol. The Club bought a site in Clanage Road in 2016 as a replacement for the extremely popular Baltic Wharf campsite because the Club’s landlord, Bristol City Council, had been moving ahead with plans to redevelop the Western Harbour area of Bristol.

We would really like to be able to continue to offer a site in Bristol as we know many of our members love to visit Bristol and have fond memories of staying at Baltic Wharf. It will also have a great economic benefit in the local area with members visiting local attractions, shopping and eating out, as the City is easily accessible on foot and by public transport from the new proposed site. Having a Club Site will also extend the range of accommodation Bristol can offer.

We have resubmitted a planning application for a site on Clanage Road and would love it if any members can help this application by contacting Bristol City Council in support of the proposed new Club Site.

For more information on how to support a planning application visit: https://www.bristol.gov.uk/planning-and-building-regulations/comment-on-a-planning-application or alternatively you can email the Council your thoughts: development.management@bristol.gov.uk

We would be very grateful for your support in this matter and thank you in advance for your help. Support from members could well help to secure a positive outcome. In the meantime members will still be able to stay at Baltic Wharf Club Site in Bristol up until the end of the year.

We will keep you posted on developments and wish you a very happy touring season ahead.

There are quite a few comments on the planning application from members. It's entirely up to them if they want to comment, it's good to see there is support out there. In some ways the numbers staying on Baltic Wharf over the years should also support the application, I see the SS GT Britain notes they have enjoyed visits from many CAMC visitors and supports the provision of a new site.

I note that there is also a change of use application for the children's nursery, near the proposed site alongside the cricket ground. So two applications close together in the same area.

ET there is no point in making it easy for anyone.

DK I too thought hard over whether to go public but given our views are not going to count for a great deal, I decided an email was my preferred option stating that I wished to withhold my full name and address. If that is unacceptable and it is not taken into any account. so be it but I have not received a reply that this will be so. Knowing how little account they will take of public opinion it won't matter. They may well also consider wisiting members comments biased.

Completely right about outsiders commenting whichever method is used as they probably won't count for much except in showing the demand for such a site which might influence the lay people of the Planning Committee. The route to overturning the objections is the have a good planning consultant and a specialist Barrister if it were to go to the Inspector. I hope the Club has such a person.

Well members  have until the 27th July to make comments and judgement is scheduled to be made before 18th August but that can always slip.

If it fails then one would think that as the government want to support the struggling service economies an appeal might prove successful

What other facilities would you want ET?  Swimming pool,, 10 pin bowling, restaurant?  All those things you have likely said you do not want or need in other posts?

I think the great thing about BW was the location right in town so I guess they are trying to replicate the same so once on site people do not need to use transport to get into town and can walk or cycle?

The CityKamp website shows what sort of campsites other cities have. Bristol deserves better than this mean little proposal.

Looks like the determination has not yet been made in spite of the deadline being passed. Folk are still posting comments about the application. I don't expect the Club to comment but anybody local got any further information? Perhaps the delay is good news?
